When Radiance: Ancient Gld Ornaments frm the Cllectin f the Hng Kng Palace Museum pened in Beijing, I was in the United States attending a training prgram and, regrettably, culd nt experience it in persn. Yet within nly a few days, my scial media feeds were filled with phts and shrt vides taken by yung visitrs. Thanks t these psts, I was able t “visit” the exhibitin vividly after all.
In fact, I am ne f thse enthusiastic “ambassadrs” fr heritage artifacts (文物) myself. My jurney began in 2016, when the dcumentary, Masters in the Frbidden City, entered the palace’s hidden crners, revealing the daily wrk and quiet dedicatin f restratin experts — shwing a side f histrical preservatin few had seen befre. It dawned n me then that these artifacts were nt merely cld numbers sealed away in strerms, but living bjects that had survived fr thusands f years.
Inspired by this realizatin, I wanted t help bring histry alive in my wn way. The idea tk hld in high schl, when I came acrss a few striking phts nline: the cmplicated carvings n ritual jade knwn as cng, and the faint fingerprints still visible n the Terractta Warrirs after thusands f years. Deeply mved, I picked up my camera, hping that thrugh my lens (镜头), thers culd see what I saw — allwing these museum relics t meet peple arund the wrld, acrss time and space.
Since then, I’ve been sharing the artifacts I phtgraph n scial media. Six years have passed, and I’ve received cuntless messages: “I never knew these treasures culd be this beautiful,” r “I never realized hw dazzling ur civilizatin is.” Many yung peple have als written t me, saying that they, t, want t rediscver traditinal culture in their wn ways.
Tday, this passin is evident acrss Chinese scial media. A grwing number f yung peple are using their creativity t “speak” fr ur heritage: sme turn artifacts int magnets, sme print them n hanfu, while thers transfrm them int animated characters, restre them with AI, r adapt their stries int shrt dramas.
Thrugh these fresh interpretatins, ancient culture cmes alive in the mdern wrld.
