The cub was an Amur tiger. "Only abut 400 Amur tigers are still living in the wrld. In the past, we always sent cubs t zs," said Dr. Miquelle. "Nw we have a way t give them a secnd chance at life in the wild." He and his c - wrker tk the cub t a new wildlife center which was designed fr raising wild animals withut peple living arund. It uses hidden cameras and cvered fences (围栏) t keep wrkers ut f sight. That way, the animal desn't lse its natural instincts (本能) r becme dependent n humans. In the center, the cub, nw named Zlushka, learned t hunt and grew up int a big healthy tiger.
By the spring f 2013, experts agreed Zlushka was ready t return t the wild. They set it free in the Bastak Nature Reserve in the area, where there used t be tigers 50 years ag but they have died ut. "Their survival (存活) rests nly in the hands f humans," said Dr. Miquelle.

D yu remember the last time yu tk a language curse? When yu finished the
curse, yur language abilities were different frm yur classmates'.
These differences exist in every field. But in my field, the psychlgy (心理学) f
secnd-language learning, ne questin remains unclear: why is it easier fr sme peple t
learn a new language than fr thers? Recently, I was excited t learn that scientist Xiaqian
Chai and her team at McGill University have been studying this questin. They lked at
students in a 12 - week French curse and fund big differences in hw much each student
imprved.
Fr their study, the researchers scanned (扫描) the brains f native English speakers
befre the curse started. They cllected samples (样本) f the participants' French speaking
and reading befre and after the curse. The results shwed that the strength f cnnectins
between different resting parts f a persn's brain culd predict (预测) hw much their
specific (特定的) language skills wuld imprve. Specifically, imprvement in reading
depended n the cnnectin between the brain's visual wrd - frm area and anther.
Imprvement in speaking, hwever, depended n the cnnectin between the speech - related
area and tw ther regins. Fr bth skills, strnger brain cnnectins befre the curse
were linked t greater imprvement after the training.
These findings lead t mre questins: If brain cnnectivity predicts learning, hw
can we predict the cnnectivity itself? I can't help but cnnect this t research n bilingual
(双语的) educatin, which shws that a strng first language is the key t learning a strng
secnd language. S, the participants' pre - existing English skills might have influenced their
brain cnnectins.
As we understand mre abut hw the brain learns language, we can turn this knwledge int teaching techniques that play t each student's strengths. The next generatin f middle - schlers is entering a mre glbalized wrld than ever, and they are ging t need ur help.
58. Why des the writer ask a questin at the beginning f the text?
A. T share a persnal dubt.B. T challenge the reader.
C. T summarize a study.D. T intrduce the tpic.
59. What predicted language skill imprvement in the study?
A. The participants' age and backgrund.
B. The intelligence level f the participants.
C. The amunt f time spent in the classrm.
D. The cnnectins' strength f the brain parts.
60. What is the last paragraph mainly abut?
A. The applicatin f the study.B. The ways f English learning.
C. The imprtance f glbalizatin.D. The number f middle - schlers.
