Knwn as Earth’s “kidneys” (肾), wetlands play an imprtant part in the ecsystem (生态系统). Hwever, abut 35% f natural wetlands have been lst in the past 50 years, said the UN. “We wanted t make a simple rbt t help cllect data (数据), but traditinal rbts faced prblems in wetlands,” Cui tld Teens.
As an amphibius fish, mudskippers are small and can mve freely in wetlands. Inspired (启发) by the little creature, they added a special chest (胸腔) and tail fin (鳍) t their rbt. The fin can help the rbt mve freely n land and swim underwater. They als learned cding (编程) t cntrl the rbt with their phnes frm far away, up t 300 meters. What’s mre, they put in different sensrs (传感器) t see plants and check water cleanness.
But things didn’t always g well. Hw t keep the main electrnics (电子元件) dry when the rbt went underwater was a big prblem during testing. “The 3D printed parts we used culdn’t seal (密封) well,” Lyu tld Teens.
