I was walking dwn the street in a small twn the ther day and passed a cuple sitting n a bench. “She must be 180 centimeters tall,” I heard the wman say t the man. I turned t lk at them straight in the eye at nce. I felt angry and awkward that they were talking abut me and staring. The wman suddenly said, “Oh, she must understand Chinese.”“ Yes, I d,” I replied. Then, they bth smiled and laughed, and s did I.
This was yet anther time in the twn when strangers stared r talked abut my appearance. It’s either because f my unusually tall height as a wman r because I am a freigner. As a shy persn, this makes me feel quite uncmfrtable. I just want t fit in! I usually just try t ignre such peple, but this time, as sn as I talked t the cuple, they went frm judgmental strangers t peple I just shared a warm and funny mment with.
It reminded me hw imprtant it is t have the right attitude and t be understanding. There aren’t that many freigners in the twn, s it’s nly natural that Chinese peple here will feel curius abut freigners and hw they lk different. Althugh, when peple stare at yu it feels a bit hstile, but mst peple arc simply curius and may even want t chat with yu.
In shrt, I can’t change this situatin. The nly thing I can change is my attitude tward it. Life is t shrt t be influenced by the little things. We need t enjy each mment with a psitive and pen attitude!

It’s cmmn t hear that being “emtinal” is the ppsite f being “ratinal (理性的)”. Fr many peple, there is n place fr emtin in ratinal thinking. Hwever, sme recent wrk frm ur lab suggests the ppsite.
We fund that individuals wh scre higher n tests f intelligence and ratinality dn’t ignre emtins. Instead, they pay mre attentin t emtins and are better at recgnizing and understanding emtins. This is because mst intelligent decisin-making requires emtinal infrmatin. Emtins tell us what we want, and we can’t make smart decisins withut first knwing what ur gals are.
Fr example, as a mther, if I want t make my children happy, and I knw they like vide games, it wuld make sense fr me t buy them a vide game. But, if I instead want them t stay fcused n hmewrk, then it wuldn’t make sense fr me t buy them the vide game. Yu can see frm this example that a ratinal decisin can’t be made unless I knw multiple pieces f emtinal infrmatin.
Anticipating thers’ emtins may help us be mre effective leaders — allwing us t predict the way peple will respnd t what we say r d. Anticipating ur wn emtins can als make fr much mre effective lng-term decisins. Fr example, if I predict I will feel anxius befre giving a public speech, I might be mtivated t practice a few mre times. If I instead simply suppressed (压抑) r ignred my anxiety, chances are that I’d be mre distracted n stage, and my speech wuldn’t g as smthly.
Of curse, it’s imprtant t identify situatins where emtinal influences may nt be helpful as well. Here, individuals wh scre higher n ratinality tests may be better at reflecting n whether an emtin will be helpful r nt in a given situatin. They can then make their decisin after giving it mre thrugh cnsideratin. Fr example, expressing t much anger r sadness t yur bss when yu dn’t get a prmtin may nt be in yur best interest.
In general, if we want t be ratinal and make the best decisins, we shuld desire as much infrmatin as we can get and infrmatin abut emtins can ften be especially useful.
31.What is a general belief f emtins and ratinality?
A. Ratinality can enhance emtinal intelligence.
B. Emtins cntribute t ratinal decisin-making.
C. They play cnflicting rles in thinking prcesses.
D. Ratinality is mre imprtant than emtins in decisin-making.
32.Why des the authr mentin the example in Paragraph 3?
A. T demnstrate the prcess f decisin-making.
B. T expse the harm f ignrance f emtins.
C. T draw the line between ratinality and emtins.
D. T shw the imprtance f emtinal infrmatin.
33.What shuld be dne t make the best f emtins accrding t Paragraph 5?
A. Recgnitin f their usefulness.
B. Reflectin n the ptential impact.
C. Cmpletin f the ratinality tests.
D. Identificatin f diverse situatins.
34.What des the authr suggest fr making wise decisins?
A. Acquiring adequate infrmatin.B. Priritizing ratinality.
C. Trusting immediate feelings.D. Seeking expert advice.
35.Which f the fllwing statements is true accrding t the passage?
A. Highly ratinal individuals ignre emtins t maintain bjective decisins.
B. Emtinal infrmatin has nthing t d with making wise decisins.
C. Ratinal peple evaluate emtins’ usefulness based n specific situatins.
D. Effective leaders tend t suppress emtins rather than anticipate them.
