S I almst frgt abut the kite, except when I pened the cupbard (壁橱) and saw it still in its bx.
Recently, I asked Dad t take the kite ut with me. We went smewhere near ur hme, called Maple Rise. It’s high n a hill and usually very windy, but nt that day, I began t think we wuld have prblems getting such a big kite int the air. But Dad said that when he was a child, he and Grandad had gne kite flying n the beach. Grandad wuld thrw the kite int the air, and Dad wuld run alng, pulling n the string (线). What Dad didn’t tell me was that the kite ften hit the grund and smetimes even brke.
But that wasn’t ur experience. The wind increased a bit, and suddenly the kite went ff—and stayed in the air. Fantastic!
Since then, I’ve becme better at flying kites, and I’ve even made my wn. I lve kites with traditinal designs painted n them, but I’m nt very creative, s I just build them, and I dn’t mind that they’re simple. They lk great, even thugh they dn’t always fly well. But I’m slwly learning what wrks and what desn’t, I can make different kites nw, and I can chse the right ne accrding t hw strng the wind is. I am nt very gd at languages. But next mnth, I’m ging t Cng in Africa, and I want t learn Lingala, ne f the lcal languages, fr basic cnversatins. Mem is fun. It gives yu a few new wrds t learn, and these are “seeds” (种子) that yu plant in yur “greenhuse”. When yu wrk n the wrds, yu “water yur plants”, and they grw. When the app believes that yu have really remembered a wrd, it mves the wrd t yur “garden”. Yu get pints as yur garden grws, s yu can cmpare yurself with ther Mem users. Yu g t the next level when yu get a high scre. If yu frget t lg in (登录), the app infrms yu t “water yur plants”.
The app uses tw rules abut learning. The first is that peple remember things better when they cnnect them t a picture in their mind. Mem translates wrds int yur wn language, but it als encurages yu t use “mems”—pictures that help yu remember new wrds. Yu can use mems that ther users have created, r yu can create yur wn. The secnd rule is t have a break between studying activities. Yu shuld stp after studying wrds and then cme back t them later. Mem helps yu with this because yu nly use it fr five r ten minutes a day.
I’ve learned hundreds f Lingala wrds with Mem. I knw this wn’t make me a perfect speaker, but I hpe I can d mre than just smile and nd when I meet peple in Cng. Nw, I need t g and water my vcabulary!

B Users can nly use the “mems” created.

      D. Making cnnectins between wrds and pictures imprves learning.

A few years ag, research by the Natinal Alliance fr Yuth Sprts in the USA fund that mst yung peple (arund 70%) gave up playing all rganised (有组织的) sprt by the age f thirteen. This is really surprising because everyne knws that sprts are gd fr ur bdy and mind.
Accrding t the research, the main reasn that teenagers n lnger wanted t take part in any rganised sprt was that “it’s just nt fun any mre”. When I was a child, playing sprts was all abut having a gd time with my friends. It didn’t matter if yu were nt the fastest and mst skillful, yu still jined in. It was abut playing tgether, learning t win and lse, laughing and crying, but abve all enjying the mment. But nw that we are lder, sprts teachers and caches nly seem t be interested in the few kids wh want t take it seriusly. The rest f us, wh just want t play fr fun, get frgtten.
As I see it, it isn’t just sprt that is the prblem; it’s the whle culture f success that we live in. Every day we are tld t “be the best”, “give 110%” and “never give up”. But what if yu just want t d smething yu aren’t very gd at because it’s fun?
Peple als need t remember that life fr a teenager is pretty busy. Yu dn’t want t miss ut n spending time with friends and develping ther interests just because yu have t g t sprts training five times a week. And let’s nt frget schl. As we get lder, we spend mre and mre time studying, bth at hme and at schl.
What really matters is that sprt is s imprtant. Besides the physical advantages, lts f research shws sprt can help yung peple deal with stress (压力). When arund 30% f teenagers are experiencing stress, we need t d everything pssible t get them t take up a sprt.
What can we d t make such a big change happen? In my pinin, we need schls, sprts rganisatins and gvernments t understand that, abve all else, sprt isn’t abut being the best, training hard, and winning—it’s abut having fun, making friends, and taking part.
      28. The writer mentins his wn experience f playing sprts as a child t _________.
      A. shw his excellence in sprts
      B. share his lve f playing sprts
      C. describe the true meaning f sprt fr children
      D. tell the imprtance f sprt fr children’s develpment
      29. What can we learn frm the passage?
      A. Teenagers shuld take better care f their minds and bdies.
      B. Sprts training time shuld nt take up students’ study time.
      C. The culture f success stps teenagers playing rganised sprt.
      D. Teenagers need suggestins in managing sprts and ther things.
      30. What is the writer’s main purpse in writing this passage?
      A. T warn schls f the risk f trying t win in sprts.
      B. T ask fr mre chances t enjy playing sprts.
      C. T advise teenagers t take sprts seriusly.
      D. T discuss the advantages f playing sprts.
