It is a cmmn assumptin that t be a cmputer prgrammer yu need t be very gd at math. Hwever, new research frm the University f Washingtn suggests that this is nt necessarily the case. The study led by researcher Chantel Prat indicates that being a strng language learner prved t be a much better predictr f a persn’s ability t learn prgramming than having basic math knwledge.
Fr the new study n cding (编程), Prat wanted t explre what makes smene gd at learning a skill that invlves wrking with symbls, like prgramming. Prat pints ut that a huge number f jbs nw require cding skills, and their imprtance keeps grwing.
In the experiment, Prat’s team brught in 36 adults with n past cding experience. Participants first tk a series f tests, including ne fr mdern language talent, which measures natural talent fr learning languages. They were als tested n general cgnitive (认知) abilities like prblem-slving and wrking memry, as well as their numeracy.
Next, each participant attended ten 45-minute sessins t learn the prgramming language Pythn thrugh an nline learning platfrm. After the curse, the researchers measured hw well each persn had learned. They lked at hw far participants had prgressed in the lessns, their scres n a multiple-chice test abut the cde’s rules, and their perfrmance in a practical exercise where they had t write a simple prgram fr a rck, paper, scissrs game.
The results were striking. Amng all the things cnsidered, the language talent test was the single strngest predictr f hw quickly and effectively smene learned t cde in Pythn. In fact, when the researchers analyzed what led t the differences in learning speed, language talent explained a very large prtin (43%), while numeracy explained nly a tiny part (6%).
“This is the first study that directly cmpares math against cmmunicatin abilities fr learning this kind f symblic skill, and it shwed that language was a much strnger predictr,” Prat said. She believes this finding is crucial fr breaking dwn the narrw steretypes (刻板印象) f what a gd prgrammer lks like. Ultimately, she hpes this understanding will nt nly help identify wh might be gd at cding but als lead t teaching methds that can match different brain styles, making it pssible fr almst everyne t learn this imprtant 21st-century skill.
      28. What can be learned abut cding skills frm the passage?
      A. Past experience plays a key rle in learning cding skills.
      B. Cding skills are becming increasingly imprtant tday.
      C. Prblem-slving abilities help develp cding skills.
      D. Math ability is the main thing fr cding skills.
      29. Why des the authr write the last paragraph?
      A. T issue a call t actin.
      B. T explain the weak pints f the study.
      C. T cmpare the methds used in the study.
      D. T highlight the significance f the finding.

The fear that language is in decline (衰退) is like the stry f the by wh cried wlf, with ne key difference: the wlf never appears. Fr a very lng time, peple have wrried that language standards are falling, yet this feared breakdwn in cmmunicatin has never actually happened.
Language has always been and will remain a useful tl fr cmmunicatin. Thse wh warn abut the decline f language ften d nt knw its histry. Their wrries are usually nt abut a real decline, but are simply statements f persnal preference fr the way f speaking they are used t. The idea that language will get wrse t the pint where we can nly cmmunicate with simple sunds is unfunded. The clearest evidence fr this is that peple have been making the same warnings fr hundreds f years.
Many famus writers thrughut histry have maned abut falling standards. Yet, the very same perids prduced sme f the greatest wrks in English literature. And anxiety abut standards is nt unique t English. Speakers f every language in the wrld have, at sme pint, sighed fr its future.
The truth is that English, like all ther languages, keeps changing. The feeling f decline is a false idea created by the speed f this change within ur wn shrt lifetimes. Because change ften happens between generatins, lder speakers see the rules they grew up with being replaced by new nes. This can cause cgnitive discmfrt, which then turns int negative cmments. We naturally lk fr intellectual reasns t explain ur persnal preferences.
If we culd live fr centuries, we wuld see the bigger picture. Language change is nt simply a sign f carelessness. It happens at all levels, frm vcabulary t grammar. Over centuries, a language can be changed s much that it becmes unrecgnizable. Hwever, like a cmplex (复杂的) natural system, language ften maintains a balance. Simplificatin in ne area can lead t greater cmplexity in anther. What stays the same is the main expressive pwer f the language. Yu can always say what needs t be said.
      31. As fr language decline, the authr is ______.
      A. disapprvingB. supprtive
      C. cnfusedD. indifferent
      32. What des the phrase “maned abut” underlined in Paragraph 3 mst prbably mean?
      A. Expressed dissatisfactin with.

      C. Carefully thught abut.
      D. Paid n attentin t.
      33. It is implied in this passage that we shuld ______.
      A. accept persnal differences in language
      B. stp wrrying abut language decline
      C. avid using simplified language
