There’s a reasn fr the phrase “the eyes are the windw t the sul.” Yu dn’t have t be a psychlgist t knw that the eyes cmmunicate a lt f infrmatin. And a recent study reveals hw humans use their eyes t cmmunicate withut wrds. In the future, this line f research culd lead t a better understanding f hw peple with cnditins that affect scial skills.
“We try t find the reasn fr why ur brain engages with scial infrmatin differently,” said Ristic, a prfessr f psychlgy at McGill University in Canada and the senir authr f the study, which was published nline in September.
In the research, Ristic and her clleagues were interested in understanding whether peple respnd t intentinal eye mvements differently than they d t unintentinal eye mvements. First, they recrded peple sitting in frnt f a screen and mving their eyes in respnse t prmpts (提示词) n that screen. Fr instance, the individuals were smetimes prmpted t mve their eyes left r right—their chice—and ther times, they were clearly directed t lk ne way r the ther.
Next, the researchers invited abut 80 participants t watch these recrdings, which were cut just befre the peple in the vide actually mved their eyes. In each vide clip, the participants were asked t predict which way each persn wuld glance: left r right.
“They were faster t make these decisins when the lks were intentinal,” Ristic said. This difference in predictin speed was a matter f a few millisecnds, but it revealed that peple prcess intentinal and unintentinal stares differently.
The researchers analyzed their vide recrdings t figure ut what participants might be seeing that wuld help them mre quickly predict eye mtin befre a persn intentinally shifted their stare. T the naked eye, it didn’t lk like the recrded individuals were mving at all. But in a clse analysis, the researchers fund that there was mre mtin arund the eye area befre smene chse t mve their stare versus when they were tld which way t lk. These tiny mvements might have been a “tell”.
“We guess based n this that these very subtle mtin signals are cmmunicated very quickly t indicate intentinally t thers and that ur system as the bserver is very sensitive t that,” Ristic said.
The next step in the research will be t use mre precise eye-tracking techniques t understand these subtle signals. The team plans t cnduct fllw-up studies with participants wh have a cnditin that affects scial skills, such as autism (自闭症). In these neurdevelpmental disrders, peple may struggle t ntice and interpret scial signals. “This is ne f the key questins in the autism wrld,” Ristic said. “Where is the system wrking differently, and in which aspects?”
28. Why did Ristic cnduct the study?
A. T prve that the eyes are the windw t the sul.
B. T find ut why peple can knw intentins frm stares.
C. T explre why brains handle scial infrmatin in different ways.
D. T cnfirm that eyes are mre sensitive in the cmmunicatin system.
29. Accrding t Paragraph 6, what might the tiny mvements have tld?
A. Peple’s intentinal stares.B. Peple’s vide recrdings.
C. Peple’s scial cnditins.D. Peple’s naked eyes.
30. Accrding t the passage, the study may ______.
A. help understand scial challenges in autism.B. imprve cmmunicatin efficiency.
C. find signs f scial skill disrders.D. perfect eye-tracking techniques.
C 29. A 30. A

These tiny mvements might have been a “tell”.(研究人员分析了他们的视频记录,试图弄清楚参与者可能看到了什么,使得他们能在他人有意转移视线之前,更快地预测其眼部动作。 以及第七段““We guess based n this that these very subtle mtin signals are cmmunicated very quickly t indicate intentinally t thers and that ur system as the bserver is very sensitive t that,” Ristic said.”(里斯蒂奇说:“基于此,我们猜测这些非常微妙的运动信号会非常迅速地传达出去,有意地向他人表明,而我们作为观察者的系统对此非常敏感。”)” 故选A项。
根据最后一段“The team plans t cnduct fllw-up studies with participants wh have a cnditin that affects scial skills, such as autism (自闭症). In these neurdevelpmental disrders, peple may struggle t ntice and interpret scial signals. “This is ne f the key questins in the autism wrld,” Ristic said. “Where is the system wrking differently, and in which aspects?”(研究团队计划针对患有影响社交技能病症(比如自闭症)的参与者开展后续研究。在这些神经发育障碍疾病中,患者可能难以察觉和解读社交信号。“这是自闭症领域的关键问题之一,” 里斯蒂奇说道,“该系统在哪些方面运作不同,又是在哪些环节出现差异呢?”)”可知,这项研究可能有助于理解自闭症中的社交挑战。故选A项。
D
“Wman reading bk, under a night sky, dreamy atmsphere.” I type int Deep Dream Generatr’s Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned t me shwing what I’ve described.
Welcme t the wrld f AI image generatin (生成), where yu can create what n the surface lks like tp-rank artwrk using just a few text prmpts. But clser examinatin shws strangeness. The face f the wman in my image has very strange features, and appears t be hlding varius bks. And, while I did feel excited at seeing an image appear, I didn’t have any creative satisfactin.
AI image generatin culd impact everything frm film t graphic nvels and mre. Children’s illustratrs were quick t raise cncerns abut the technlgy. They say AI-generated art is the exact ppsite f what art is believed t be. Basically, art is translating what yu feel inside int smething that exists utside. Whatever frm it takes, true art is abut the creative prcess much mre than it’s abut the final piece. And simply pressing a buttn t generate an image is nt a creative prcess.
Beynd creativity, there are deeper issues. T create images frm prmpts, AI generatrs rely n databases f already existing art and text. This culd lead t the creatin f images that purpsely cpy the style f ther artists, withut their agreement. There is an argument that AI generatrs wrk n differently t humans when it cmes t being influenced by thers’ wrk. Hwever, a human artist is adding emtin and details int the mix. AI desn’t d the same — it can nly cpy.
The increasing use f AI will als lead t devaluatin f the wrk f artists. Peple may think that their AI-generated “wrk” is as acceptable as that created by smene wh has spent a career making art. It’s wrng, f curse. The skills, effrt, and visin f human artists shuldn’t be ignred. Yu can use yur mbile phne t take a nice picture f yur daughters, but it cannt cmpare with the wrk f prfessinal phtgraphers.

A 32. A 33. B 34. B
根据第一段““Wman reading bk, under a night sky, dreamy atmsphere.” I type int Deep Dream Generatr’s Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned t me shwing what I’ve described. (“夜空下,女人读书,梦幻的氛围。”我在Deep Dream Generatr的Text 2 Dream功能中输入。不到一分钟,系统就返回给我一张显示我所描述内容的图片)”以及第二段“Welcme t the wrld f AI image generatin (生成), where yu can create what n the surface lks like tp-rank artwrk using just a few text prmpts.(欢迎来到AI图像生成的世界,在这里,你只需几个文本提示就能创作出表面上看似一流的艺术作品)”可知,作者提到自己用Deep Dream Generatr创作图片是为了引出下文将要讨论的AI图像生成这一主题。故选A项。
根据第三段“Basically, art is translating what yu feel inside int smething that exists utside. Whatever frm it takes, true art is abut the creative prcess much mre than it’s abut the final piece. And simply pressing a buttn t generate an image is nt a creative prcess.(从本质上讲,艺术是将你内心的感受转化为外在存在的东西。无论它采取什么形式,真正的艺术更多的是关于创作过程,而不是最终的作品。而简单地按下一个按钮来生成图像并不是一个创作过程)”可知,AI图像生成缺乏人类艺术真正的创作过程。故选A项。
根据划线词后文“Peple may think that their AI-generated “wrk” is as acceptable as that created by smene wh has spent a career making art.(人们可能认为他们AI生成的“作品”和那些花了一辈子时间创作艺术的人的作品一样可以被接受)”可知,人们可能会认为AI生成的作品和人类艺术家的作品一样有价值,结合常识可推知,既然AI生成的作品和人类艺术家的作品一样有价值,那么AI的广泛使用就会导致艺术家作品的价值降低,故“devaluatin”意为“价值的降低”,与B项“Decrease in wrth.”
根据第三段“And simply pressing a buttn t generate an image is nt a creative prcess.(而简单地按下一个按钮来生成图像并不是一个创作过程)”、第四段“Beynd creativity, there are deeper issues.(除了创造力之外,还有更深层次的问题)”以及最后一段“The increasing use f AI will als lead t devaluatin f the wrk f artists.(AI的日益使用也将导致艺术家作品的贬值)”可推知,作者对AI图像生成持担忧态度。

I’ll admit it — when smene asks me hw I’m ding, the first wrd that usually cmes ut f my muth is “busy”. It seems that “busy” has becme the new nrmal.
The desire t keep busy is an essential part f being human. Peple lve feeling imprtant and needed, which is what “busy” prvides. S they make packed schedules t keep themselves busy.
But are yu really as busy as yu think yu are? Mst career-driven peple wuld prbably guess they spend mst f their time at wrk. But authr Laura Vanderkam argues that that’s prbably nt the case. In her new bk, I Knw Hw She Des It, 143 mthers with six-figure jbs recrded what they did fr every hur f ne week. Surprisingly, these “busy” wmen wrked nly 44 hurs a week n average and slept nearly eight hurs a night, leaving 70 hurs per week fr ther things. The result apparently reveals that peple think they are busy, but in fact their time is nt highly ccupied by wrk.
Why? The reasn lies in the fact that negative events tend t stand ut in the mind mre than psitive events. Peple verestimate (高估) the things they dn’t want t d — wrk, husewrk — and underestimate the things they d want t d.
Simply tracking hw yu spend yur time is the first step in breaking free f the “busy” trap. It’s a lt harder t lie t urselves when we see where the time ges, right there in black and white. It is als necessary t recgnize that yu’re respnsible fr yur time management, and stp telling peple hw busy yu are. Ask yurself: “Am I truly verwrking?” Pause when smene asks “Hw are yu?” — truly reflect instead f saying “busy”.
40. Why d peple like t keep themselves busy?
__________________________________________________________________________________
41. What des the result f the recrd shw?

42. Please decide which part is false in the fllwing statement, then underline it and explain why.
➢T break free f yur “busy” trap, yu shuld recrd hw yu spend yur time, realize yur respnsibility in time management and stp verwrking.
__________________________________________________________________________________
43. Hw will yu manage yur time fr the cming summer hliday t avid the “busy” trap?(In abut 40 wrds)
__________________________________________________________________________________
40. Because they lve feeling imprtant and needed.
41. The “busy” wmen didn’t spend as much time n wrk as they thught, with 44 hurs f wrk per week n average and 70 hurs left fr ther things.
43. 示例:I’ll make a detailed schedule fr the summer hliday, including study, exercise and entertainment time, and stick t it t avid being t busy.
根据第二段中“The desire t keep busy is an essential part f being human. Peple lve feeling imprtant and needed, which is what “busy” prvides.(保持忙碌的欲望是人类本质的一部分。人们喜欢感觉自己很重要,被需要,而“忙碌”正能提供这种感觉)”可知,人们喜欢让自己忙碌是因为他们喜欢感觉自己很重要,被需要。故答案为:Because they lve feeling imprtant and needed.
根据第三段中“In her new bk, I Knw Hw She Des It, 143 mthers with six-figure jbs recrded what they did fr every hur f ne week. Surprisingly, these “busy” wmen wrked nly 44 hurs a week n average and slept nearly eight hurs a night, leaving 70 hurs per week fr ther things.(在她的新书《我知道她是怎么做到的》中,143位年薪六位数的母亲记录了一周中每个小时的活动。令人惊讶的是,这些“忙碌”的女性平均每周只工作44小时,每晚睡近8小时,每周剩下70小时做其他事情)”可知,记录结果显示这些“忙碌”的女性并没有像她们想象的那样把大部分时间花在工作上,而是平均每周只工作44小时,每晚睡近8小时,每周剩下70小时做其他事情。故答案为:The “busy” wmen didn’t spend as much time n wrk as they thught, with 44 hurs f wrk per week n average and 70 hurs left fr ther things.
根据最后一段中“Simply tracking hw yu spend yur time is the first step in breaking free f the “busy” trap. (简单地追踪你如何分配时间是摆脱“忙碌”陷阱的第一步)”和“It is als necessary t recgnize that yu’re respnsible fr yur time management, and stp telling peple hw busy yu are.
根据最后一段中“Simply tracking hw yu spend yur time is the first step in breaking free f the “busy” trap. It’s a lt harder t lie t urselves when we see where the time ges, right there in black and white. It is als necessary t recgnize that yu’re respnsible fr yur time management, and stp telling peple hw busy yu are. I’ll make a detailed schedule fr the summer hliday, including study, exercise and entertainment time, and stick t it t avid being t busy.
