What were the challenges (挑战) r jys f translating Arund the Wrld n 50 Bucks?
First, we were n a shrt timeline, s I needed t translate the whle bk in three mnths. That meant a lt f late nights. The secnd challenge was Christpher’s sense f humr. Sme f his humr is based n German culture that are very hard t translate.
This leads int the jys as well. Christpher and I cmmunicated nline weekly while translating the bk. We brainstrmed tgether n hw t find English equivalents (对应词) fr the German style f humr.
One f the themes f this bk is cmmunicating thrugh barriers (障碍). Frm yur pint f view, hw wuld smene interested in traveling best learn a new language in a strange place?
Christpher has great tips fr this in the bk: Use apps and dictinaries t learn as many wrds ahead f time as pssible. When traveling, yu ften have t wait a lt. This is the perfect time t learn. Then talk t peple. Yu will make mistakes and it will be hard, but it is helpful and yu’ll gain a lt.
