Stress in teenagers can be reduced by a 30-minute nline interventin (干预) aimed at encuraging a grwth mindset and seeing the bdy’s reactin t stress as a psitive. It interprets physical respnses such as a racing heart as ptentially perfrmance-enhancing.
Mental prblems amng teenagers are n the rise in the United Kingdm, with rates f prbable mental health disrders increasing frm ne in nine (12%) in 2021 t ne in five (20%) in 2023, and there are lng waits fr access t services in sme regins.
A study invlving mre than 4,000 secndary schl pupils and university students suggests the new apprach culd be a lw-cst, effective treatment fr adlescent stress. “We’re trying t change teenagers’ beliefs abut and their respnses t stressful situatins,” said Dr David Yeager, first authr f the study. “Actually when yu’re ding smething hard and yur bdy starts t feel stressed, that culd be a gd thing.”
Yeager and clleagues cnducted a series f cntrlled trials. In ne trial, half f 166students were given the interventin while the rest were nt. All the students were then surprised with a request t give a speech abut their persnal strengths and weaknesses in frnt f peer evaluatrs wh had been trained t create an unsupprtive atmsphere by sighing and frwning.
根据第二段“Mental prblems amng teenagers are n the rise in the United Kingdm, with rates f prbable mental health disrders increasing frm ne in nine (12%) in 2021 t ne in five (20%) in 2023, and there are lng waits fr access t services in sme regins.(英国青少年的心理问题呈上升趋势,可能的心理健康障碍发生率从 2021 年的九分之一 (12%) 增加到 2023 年的五分之一 (20%),并且需要长时间等待才能获得部分地区的服务。)”
根据第三段中““We’re trying t change teenagers’ beliefs abut and their respnses t stressful situatins,” said Dr David Yeager, first authr f the study. “Actually when yu’re ding smething hard and yur bdy starts t feel stressed, that culd be a gd thing.”(“我们正在努力改变青少年对压力情况的看法和反应,”该研究的第一作者戴维·耶格尔博士说。“实际上,当你在做困难的事情并且你的身体开始感到压力时,这可能是一件好事。”)”可知,David Yeager博士指出当你在做困难的事情并且你的身体开始感到压力时,这可能是一件好事,而且他们正在改变青少年对压力的看法,由此可推知,青少年对压力的误解是,压力是消极的,故选A。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Yeager and clleagues cnducted a series f cntrlled trials. In ne trial, half f 166students were given the interventin while the rest were wh had been given the interventin had lwer stress respnses, based n heart rate and ther physical measures.(耶格尔和同事进行了一系列对照试验。在一项试验中,166名学生中有一半接受了干预,而其余的则没有……根据心率和其他身体指标,接受干预的人的压力反应较低。)”可知,从对照实验中得知,接受干预的人的压力反应较低。由此可推知,干预有利于青少年身心健康,故选B。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Yeager said the new apprach went against the “cmmn principle f self-care” that ften appears t view stress as uniquely negative and suggests peple “g d yga r have a cammile tea (甘菊茶) ’. “That’s a way t take yur attentin away but it desn’t help yu deal with the fundamental cause f stress, he said.(耶格尔说,这种新方法不同意“自我照顾的共同原则”——这种原则往往认为压力是独一无二的负面因素,并建议人们“去做瑜伽或喝一杯甘菊茶”。

Arund 40 millin tnnes f electrnic waste, knwn as e-waste, is prduced every year. This includes electrical r electrnic equipment that has been discarded. But where des it all g? Nt nly des this kill wildlife and destry ecsystems, but the accumulatin f pisn can impact human health t. As heavy metals and chemicals flw int lakes and rivers, drinking water becmes plluted. These pisns spread thrugh the sil, impacting the health f crps and animals that peple als rely n.
In sme western cuntries, e-waste isn’t hidden ut f sight in landfills but is burnt in giant, pen junkyards. They even ship waste electrnics t ther cuntries t deal with, and this ften ends up in dumps acrss Africa and Asia. Wrkers in these places are expsed t plluted lands and chemical gas.
It is urgent that we shuld reduce the damaging and unsustainable side f e-waste prductin. Rare earth metals, sme plastics and chemicals can be fed int the next generatin f electrnics. The steps t prper recycling f e-waste are extensive and need large investment, but mre and mre cuntries arund the wrld are turning t e-waste recycling.
