The technical wrld is changing s rapidly that the pwer f persnal cmputers has increased by a factr f nearly ne thusand in nly 15 years. By all accunts, it will increase by anther factr f ne thusand in the next 15 years. This enrmus pwer has changed the way science and engineering is dne, and there is n better example f this than Digital Signal Prcessing (DSP).
In the 1980s, DSP was taught as a graduate-level curse in electrical engineering; a decade later, DSP became a standard part f the undergraduate curses; tday, DSP is a basic skill needed by scientists and engineers in many fields. Despite the great change, DSP educatin has been inching alng t adapt t it. Nearly all DSP textbks are still written in the traditinal electrical engineering style f strict mathematics, which discurages many scientists and engineers.
Recgnizing this, Steven Smith authred The Scientist and Engineer’s Guide t Digital Signal Prcessing by presenting practical techniques while aviding the barriers f detailed mathematics and abstract thery. By ding s, Steven hpes mre individuals frm diverse fields such as physics, gelgy and varius branches f engineering will take up the study f DSP.
In this bk, the techniques are explained, nt simply prven t be true thrugh mathematical derivatin (推导). While much f the mathematics is included, it is nt used as the primary means f passing n the infrmatin—after all, nthing beats a few well-written paragraphs supprted by gd illustratins.
Mst DSP prgrams attaching great imprtance t pwer and flexibility are written in C language r a similar language, but learning DSP is quite different than using DSP. The student needs t cncentrate n the methds and techniques, withut being distracted by the ddness f a particular language. The prgrams in this bk are written t teach DSP in the mst straightfrward way, with all ther factrs being treated as secndary. Sme may think that this bk wuld be better if the prgrams had been written in C language, but I culdn’t disagree mre. If Steven had used prgrams in C language, readers wuldn’t have felt as excellent as a highly skilled cmputer engineer.
32. What can we learn abut DSP?
A. It requires less cmputing pwer.
B. It lays the fundatins fr science.
C. It gets mre ppular and essential.
D. It remains unchanged in educatin.
33. What d the underlined wrds “inching alng” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A. Slw-ging.
B. Time-cnsuming.
C. Resurce-limited.
D. Well-established.
34. Why des Steven write this bk?
A. T ffer basic DSP techniques.B. T avid the use f theries.
C. T prve the value f mathematics.D. T braden the DSP cmmunity.
35. What des Steven emphasize abut cmputer prgrams in the bk?
A. Their simplicity.B. Their flexibility.
C. Their language.D. Their descriptin.
【答案】32. C 33. A 34. D 35. A
【语篇解读】这是一篇说明文。本文介绍数字信号处理(DSP)的发展历程,指出其教育滞后问题,及史蒂文・史密斯写书以通俗方式推广DSP的情况。

One f my memrable breakthrugh mments with a student actually happened quite recently. It was exam seasn in ur schl, and as we well knw, fr thse students wh are already anxius abut math, high-pressure testing tends t further cause negative emtins assciated with math, which can lead t a lack f interest, pr academic perfrmance, and lw cnfidence in the subject. Fr this particular student, Julia, her attitude t math class fr as lng as she culd remember had always been negative.
Julia had cme in fr a math-therapy (数学治疗) sessin with me tw days befre her math exam. I lve these sessins because they allw us t g deep int the rt causes f the prblem and really tackle the emtinal cmpnent f learning, and as my favrite brain-based learning expert Liesl McCnchie says: A student’s emtinal relatinship with math is fundatinal t their cgnitive (认知的) relatinship with math.
I started by asking Julia hw she was feeling abut her math exam, and she immediately said ne pwerful wrd: “Scared.” Then I asked an equally pwerful questin: “Why?” “Because I’m ging t be t anxius t answer anything,” Julia replied.
I fund that when students are anxius abut math, it seems ttally bvius that they wuld be scared every time they encunter math. I used a strategy with her that I call “Then what?”, and ur cnversatin went smething like this. “Then what?” I cntinued asking. “Well ... I’ll have t take the curse again in summer schl!” Julia said after cnsideratin. “Then what?” I repeated. “Well, nthing, I guess. It’ll just be annying,” she said. “Then what?” I asked nce again. “I dn’t knw. I guess I’ll eventually pass and nt have t take math again,” she whispered.
That’s it. By breaking dwn her fears, we went frm panic t a mre manageable kind f annyance. This transfrmatin allwed Julia t regain cntrl ver her nervus system, and “Then what?” was a technique she culd use during the exam t keep calm.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, I encuraged Julia t rethink what the exam really means.

Three days later, I received a message frm Julia abut her exam.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Finally, I encuraged Julia t rethink what the exam really means. “Instead f a high- pressure test I might fail, it’s a chance t practice?” Julia said, lking uncertain. I ndded and tld her t fcus n smething unrelated t her fear and t enjy the exam. I als pinted ut hw hard she had been studying. In the end, she decided she wuld just fcus n making preparatins, letting g f the fear f an unsatisfactry utcme. “I’ll stay in the present rather than being cnsumed by anxiety,” Julia smiled when she left.
Three days later, I received a message frm Julia abut her exam. It read “Hey! I finished my exam. I have n idea hw I did, but I felt prud t use the ‘Then what?’ strategy twice when panic set in. Whatever the mark, I’m prud f my prgress!” This mment highlights the essence f my wrk. Helping Julia t see and value herself as a learner wh gives undivided attentin t learning itself is the key t healing brken relatinships with math. It’s mments like these that make every effrt wrth it.
