“I quickly recgnized that these kids needed smething t inspire them,” said Dnley, wh teaches at

She partnered with a lcal pst-secndary institutin, Frnt Range Cmmunity Cllege, which sent its
students t help Dnley’s classes use cmputer cding t fly drnes thrugh a maze (迷宫).
Dnley’s students already knew drnes were delivering everything frm packages fr cmpanies like Amazn
t pizza. They were als aware that the tech is being used in the military actins.
And because many f her students’ parents are agricultural wrkers, they’ d heard farmers use drnes t
mnitr crps. Sme even asked Dnley hw they culd get a license t perate thse drnes.
During the drne activities, students were fully engaged in the hands-n learning experience. Faced with the
task f cding and pilting drnes thrugh a maze, they eagerly embraced the challenge. With the instructrs’
guidance, they cllabrated with classmates t slve technical prblems, mastering the skills required t
successfully navigate the drnes. The activities drew students int a wrld f innvatin and teamwrk that they
fund far mre charming than their mbile phnes.
Dnley’s advice fr educatrs cnsidering teaching with drnes? “Jump in,” she said. “It’s wrth it.”

Grcery stre prices are changing faster than ever befre — literally. This mnth, a supermarket became the
latest retailer (零售商) t annunce it’s replacing the price stickers with electrnic shelf labels. The new labels
allw emplyees t change prices as ften as every ten secnds.
“If it’s ht utside, we can raise the price f water and ice cream. If there’s smething that’s clse t the best
befre date, we can lwer the price — that’s the gd news,” said Phil Lempert, a grcery industry analyst.
The ability t easily change prices wasn’t mentined in its annuncement that 2,300 stres will have the
digitized shelf labels by 2026. Daniela Bscan, wh participated in its pilt f the labels in Texas, said the label’s
key benefits are “increased prductivity and reduced walking time,” plus quicker restcking f shelves. Anther
feature f electrnic shelf labels is their prduct descriptins. Lempert ntes that barcdes n the new labels can
prvide useful details ther than the price.
“They can actually be used where yu take yur mbile device and yu scan it and it can give yu mre
infrmatin abut the prduct — whether it’s the surcing f the prduct, whether it’s fat free, whether it’s
pregnant wmen friendly. That’s really the prmise f what these shelf tags can d,” Lempert said.
      第 5页/共 12页
As higher wages make labr mre expensive, retailers big and small can benefit frm the increased
prductivity that digitized shelf labels enable, said Santiag Gallin, a prfessr specializing in retail management
at the University f Pennsylvania’s Whartn Schl. “The bttm line, at least when I talk t retailers, is the
calculatin f the amunt f labr that they’ re ging t save by incrprating this,” Gallin said.
Tday, the supermarket’s custmers can check n their app nce they’re in the stre, the prices that it is
ffering nline t ensure cnsistency between nline and instre pricing. Electrnic shelf tags shuld make it much
easier fr brick-and-mrtar stres t keep pace with prices as they change nline. And, he says, that cnsistency
      shuld be better fr custmers.
      8. Why is the price f water and ice cream mentined in paragraph 2?
A T illustrate the climate change glbally.
      B. T indicate the supermarket’s ecnmic strategy.
      C. T shw the real-time cntrl system f the new labels.
      D. T cmplain abut the cnstant increase f the living cst.
      9. Hw can the electrnic labels imprve the custmers’ shpping experience?
      A. By reducing walking time cnsiderably.
      B. By presenting cnstantly changing figures.
      C. By giving mre infrmatin abut the prices.
      D. By prviding detailed intrductin f the gds.
      10. What d digitized shelf labels mean t retailers?
      A. Labr saved. B. Prducts increased.
      C. Wages reduced. D. Management specialized.
      11. What des the last paragraph fcus n?
      A. Physical stres keep pace with nline nes.
B Other supermarkets have a tendency t fllw suit.
      C. Custmers benefit mre with a supermarket app dwnladed.
      D. Electrnic labels ensure cnsistent nline-t-in-stre pricing.

Underwater farming, als knwn as marine agriculture, is an innvative apprach t cultivating crps beneath
the cean’s surface. This methd takes full advantage f the unique prperties f seawater and the underwater
      第 6页/共 12页
envirnment t grw plants, ffering a sustainable slutin t land-based agricultural challenges such as sil
      degradatin and freshwater shrtage.
One significant example f underwater farming is the Nem’s Garden prject ff the cast f Italy. This
initiative uses bispheres — transparent air-filled pds (分离舱) anchred t the seaflr — t create a
cntrlled envirnment fr plant grwth. These pds maintain a stable temperature and humidity, which are crucial
fr plant develpment. The seawater naturally cls the pds during the day and maintains warmth at night,
      creating an ideal micrclimate.
The prcess begins with the installatin f these bispheres at depths f abut 5 t 10meters s that they
receive ample sunlight. Inside the pds, plants are grwn hydrpnically, meaning they are cultivated in
nutrient-rich water withut sil. This methd nt nly cnserves freshwater but als prevents sil-brne diseases.
The plants absrb carbn dixide frm the air inside the pds and release xygen, creating a self-sustaining
      ecsystem.
Scientific studies have shwn that plants grwn in these underwater envirnments can flurish. Fr instance,
basil, lettuce, and strawberries have been successfully cultivated in Nem’s Garden. Research indicates that these
plants ften have higher cncentratins f essential ils and antixidants (抗氧化物) cmpared t their land-grwn
cunterparts, likely due t the stress-free envirnment and fantastic grwing cnditins.
Underwater farming reduces the need fr pesticides and herbicides, as the enclsed envirnment minimizes
pest invasin. It des nt cmpete with land farming, making it an ptin fr castal regins with limited land
      suitable fr grwing crps.
Underwater farming represents a prmising frntier in sustainable agriculture. By using the cean’s natural
resurces, this innvative methd ffers a ptential slutin t sme f the mst pressing agricultural challenges,
ensuring fd security while preserving ecsystems n the earth.
      12. What is essential fr underwater farming?
      A. A cntrlled enclsed envirnment. B. A transparent air-remved pd.
      C. A temperature-cntrlled seaflr. D. A warm and wet micrclimate.
      13. Why are the pds installed at certain depths?
      A. T ensure enugh sunshine. B. T gain nutrient-rich water.
      C. T prevent sil-brne diseases. D. T create a self-sustaining ecsystem.
14 What des the underlined wrd “flurish” prbably mean in paragraph 4?
      第 7页/共 12页
      A. Demand mre. B. Dive deep. C. Develp better. D. Struggle hard.
      15. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. A Prmising Future in Agriculture. B. A Significant Example f Farming.
      C. A Sustainable Agricultural Innvatin. D. An Envirnmentally Friendly Initiative.
