What different znes are there in the cean?Which parts f the cean d yu think have been explred? What d yu knw abut the deepest part f the cean?
Epipelagic Zne - The surface layer f the cean is knwn as the epipelagic zne and extends frm the surface t 200 metres (656 feet). It is als knwn as the sunlight zne because this is where mst f the visible light exists. With the light cmes heat. This heat is respnsible fr the wide range f temperatures that ccur in this zne.
Mespelagic Zne - Belw the epipelagic zne is the mespelagic zne, extending frm 200 metres (656 feet) t 1,000 metres (3,281 feet). The mespelagic zne is smetimes referred t as the twilight zne r the midwater zne. The light that penetrates t this depth is extremely faint. It is in this zne that we begin t see the twinkling lights f biluminescent creatures. A great diversity f strange and bizarre fishes can be fund here.
Bthypelagic Zne - The next layer is called the bathypelagic zne. It is smetimes referred t as the midnight zne r the dark zne. This zne extends frm 1,000 metres (3,281 feet) dwn t 4,000 metres (13,124 feet). Here the nly visible light is that prduced by the creatures themselves. The water pressure at this depth is immense, reaching 5,850 punds per square inch. In spite f the pressure, a surprisingly large number f creatures can be fund here. Sperm whales can dive dwn t this level in search f fd. Mst f the animals that live at these depths are black r red in clr due t the lack f light.
Abysspelagic Zne - The next layer is called the abysspelagic zne, als knwn as the abyssal zne r simply as the abyss. It extends frm 4,000 metres (13,124 feet) t 6,000 metres (19,686 feet). The name cmes frm a Greek wrd meaning “n bttm”. The water temperature is near freezing, and there is n light at all. Very few creatures can be fund at these crushing depths. Mst f these are invertebrates such as basket stars and tiny squids. Three-quarters f the cean flr lies within this zne. The deepest fish ever discvered was fund in the Puert Ric Trench(海沟) at a depth f 27,460 feet (8,372 metres).
The different znes in the cean are Sunlight Zne, Twilight Zne, Midnight Zne and Abyssal Zne.
Sunlight Zne, Twilight Zne.
The deepest part f the cean is Abyssal Zne. It is an area where the water depth is abut 2,000–5,000 metres. The trench can be lwered t 6,000 metres. These very deep areas are smetimes called “Super-abyssal znes”. Actually it is the largest eclgical regin n earth.

It marked China’s entry int the first echeln f deep-sea scientific research and prvided strng technical supprt fr the cuntry’s subsequent deep-sea research.

The ceans make up 70% f the earth’s ttal area. Large numbers f marine animals and plants are imprtant surces f fd fr human beings. Therefre, it is very imprtant fr us t understand the wrld’s ceans. In additin t cncerns abut maritime security and ecnmic interests, explratin f the seabed will satisfy human’s curisity and thirst fr the unknwn knwledge.

The 30th Parallel Nrth
Can yu tell anything abut them in cmmn?
Lk at the pictures and talk abut what yu knw abut the mysterius 30th parallel nrth.
Read the magazine article and answer the questins.
Alng a special line f latitude, knwn as the 30th parallel nrth, lie numerus sites f ancient civilisatins and impressive natural features.Ancient civilisatins appeared n the parallel, including Babyln, with its famus twer; Egypt, with its pyramids; China, with its Sanxingdui culture, etc. These civilisatins appeared at a similar time, and all develped advanced brnze-making techniques. Were they part f a single super-civilisatin, as sme think?
A LONG LINE OF MYSTERIES
It’s argued that the 30th parallel nrth is a line f great natural energy, with frequent earthquakes and vlcanic eruptins. This creates amazing natural features, including Munt Qmlangma, the Dead Sea, and rivers, such as the Nile, the Mississippi and the Yangtze. Lacking any cncrete evidence, sme even claim it was supernatural pwers!Scientists, hwever, dispute these theries. It’s mre likely, they argue, that civilisatins arse n the 30th parallel nrth because the climate there is generally warm and wet. Majr tectnic plates meet at this latitude, causing earthquakes, which helped frm the Himalayas. The rest, they say, is either cincidence r fantasy.
Why is the 30th parallel nrth mysterius? What are sme unusual explanatins fr it?What are sme pssible scientific explanatins?
The 30th parallel nrth is mysterius because it is where numerus sites f ancient civilisatins and impressive natural features lie.
Sme believe that the 30th parallel nrth is a line f great natural energy, with frequent earthquakes and vlcanic eruptins, and thers even claim that its amazing natural features were caused by supernatural pwers.
Pssible scientific explanatins fr the 30th parallel nrth include the generally warm and damp climate that made it a gd place fr civilisatins t develp, and the fact that it is where majr tectnic plates meet.

The Bermuda TriangleFar belw the surface f the Nrth Atlantic Ocean, in a rughly triangular area knwn as the Bermuda Triangle, lie mre than 50 shipwrecks and 20 plane wrecks. What makes these wrecks s mysterius is that the cause f their fate remains largely unknwn - ships were abandned withut apparent reasn, distress signals were never sent and aircraft were lst withut trace. Sme believe that supernatural frces are respnsible, while thers put the accidents and disappearances dwn t cincidence.
Scientific theries, meanwhile, include pilt errr when trying t navigate the area, and huge “rgue waves” caused by terrible strms. Althugh many ships and planes crss the Bermuda Triangle withut incident, the stries behind thse dmed vessels’ fates cntinue t capture peple’s imaginatins.
