However, it also makes me realize our presence here sounds pointless in this great setting, like we are visitors from another world. Our 10-day journey explored the Svalbard islands in northern Norway. At our farthest point, the North Pole was still 600 miles away, but I had never been so far north. It felt like we were at the top of the world. The story of humans in the Norwegian Arctic is all about looting (掠夺) the natural world for fur, coal and other resources (资源). The first recorded visit was by Dutch sailor Willem Barentsz in June 1596, searching for a northeast passage to China. History presenter Federico Gargiulo explained that this discovery put the Arctic on the map. That attracted people to come and try to take those resources.Today, there are environmental controls on visiting this area. On our first day, we watched videos that laid down the law: Do not touch or take anything, and stay with your armed guide for protection from polar bears. We also washed our shoes and feet before boarding or leaving the ship to make the land free of pollution.Tourists pay a lot and travel far to see Arctic wildlife. On our last night, we finally got a close-up of a polar bear. Everyone rushed to the decks (甲板) with cameras. We saw the bear swimming towards us, and as it got closer, we could make out its black eyes and rounded ears. Quark Expeditions’ guides are experienced in different fields. I learned a lot from them. The guide Austin Hart’s words impressed me: “It’s not much of a human planet. Dinosaurs were around for 180 million years. I don’t know if humans have that long.” As I stood among ice and snowy mountains, this made me feel unbelievably small.24. How does the author feel after the journey?A. Our presence fits in with the planet. B. It’s too cold on the Svalbard islands,C. Human beings are tiny in this world. D. We must stop using natural resources.25. Why did Willem Barentsz come to the Norwegian Arctic?A. To draw a map of Norway. B. To find a northeast path to China.C. To explore the local history. D. To search for a passage to Holland.26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?A. Strict rules on visiting the Arctic. B. The rising number of tourists.C. The measures to protect wildlife. D. Useful tips on watching birds.27. Where is this text probably taken from?A. A history book. B. A news report. C. A research paper. D. A travel magazine.CLivestreaming (直播) through channels such as Amazon Live and QVC is an increasingly popular way to sell goods online. It usually lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, and someone promotes a product. Viewers can then readily buy it by clicking on a link.We analyzed (分析) 99,451 sales cases on a livestream selling platform and matched them with actual sales cases. In terms of time, that is equal to over 2 million 30-second television advertisements. To determine the emotional (情绪的) expression of the salesperson, we used two deep learning models: a face model and an emotion model. The face model discovers the presence or absence of a face in a frame of a video stream. The emotion model then determines the probability that a face is exhibiting any of the six basic human emotions: happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, fear or disgust. For example, smiling signals a high probability of happiness, while an off-putting expression usually points toward anger. We wanted to see the effect of emotions expressed at different times in the sales cases so we counted probabilities for each emotion for all 62 million frames in our database. We then combined these probabilities with other possible aspects that might drive sales — such as price and product characteristics — to judge the effect of emotion. We found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, when salespeople show more negative emotions — such as anger and disgust — the volume of sales went down. But we also found that a similar thing happened when the salespeople show high levels of positive emotions, such as happiness or surprise.A likely explanation, based on our research, is that smiling can be disgusting because it lacks true feelings and can reduce trust in the seller. A seller’s happiness may be taken as a sign that the seller is gaining interests at the customer’s expense.28. What can we know about the livestreaming to sell goods online?A. It challenges the physical economy. B. It helps big company sell all goods.C. It is very convenient for the buyers. D. It helps the sellers develop fixed expressions.29. What does the underlined word “off-putting” mean in paragraph 3?A. Unhappy. B. Awkward. C. Surprised. D. Frightened.30. How do customers feel about the seller’s smiling?A. They feel thankful. B. They feel delighted. C. They feel cheated. D. They feel so tired.31. Which of the following could be the best title for the text?A. Livestreamers Sell Products Successfully B. Smiling Can Increase the Sales in RealityC. Emotions and Faces: What’s the Difference D. Expressions Affect Selling Products OnlineDWhen we are young, we lean that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest animals. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito. While it may seem that all mosquitoes are biters, this is not actually the case. Male mosquitoes eat plant nectar. On the other hand, female mosquitoes feed on animal blood. When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits (传播) saliva into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. The result of the bite can be minor or as serious as death. Because a mosquito can bite many people in its life, it can carry deadly diseases from one person to another very easily. More than 700 million people become sick from these diseases every year. At least 2 million of these people will die from these diseases. In some households, mosquito nets are placed over beds to protect people against being bitten. Mosquitoes have many natural enemies like bats, birds, dragonflies, and certain kinds of fish. Bringing more of these animals into places where mosquitoes live might help to cut down the number of mosquitoes in that area. This is a natural solution, but it does not always work very well. Mosquitoes can also be killed with poisons or sprays. But these sprays may also barn other plants or animals. Although mosquitoes may not seem as scary as larger, more powerful animals, they are far more dangerous to human beings. But things are changing. It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.32. Why does the passage mention dangerous animals like tigers and sharks?A. To compare different animals.B. To lead into the topic about mosquitoes.C. To show how dangerous tigers and sharks are.D. To show people’s misunderstanding of dangerous animals.33. What can we learn about mosquitoes?A. Female mosquitoes might transmit diseases to humans.B. The saliva of female mosquitoes contains deadly diseases.C. Male mosquitoes and female mosquitoes have the same eating habits.D. More than 700 million people die from the diseases carried by the mosquitoes.34. What’s paragraph 4 mainly about?A. Scientists are making efforts to kill mosquitoes.B. Some useful measures are taken to kill mosquitoes.C. There is no perfect solution to the mosquito problem.D. Mosquitoes’ natural enemies could protect human beings.35. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of solving the mosquito problem?A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Unclear. D. I had really done it. I played the drama successfully in the school hall. But a few months earlier, I would never have imagined acting in a play in front of hundreds of people. But when the time came, I got up on stage and faced one of my greatest fears and discovered I could do more than I ever thought. I found a new person inside me, a much more daring, outgoing person who had been hidden all along, just waiting for the opportunity to appear. Without my teacher, Mrs. Green, I might never have found that opportunity. In the first grade, I was extremely shy. I had friends, but it just wasn’t in my personality to be very outgoing, even when I knew someone well. I was afraid I would do or say something wrong, so usually I just smiled and listened to other people’s conversations. I did well in school and I loved to write. However, I would escape into my writing, where I could be myself and never had to worry about what other people thought of me. In fact I was never shy in my stories. My teacher, Mrs. Green, always encouraged me to write more. She told our class to go after our dreams and dig in with both hands. I think she was the first person to see my inner strength. One day, she announced that our class was going to perform a play she had written. “I’ll begin to invite everyone tomorrow,” she said. “I need someone who is not afraid to be on stage in front of a lot of people to play the lead part of Dorothy. Anybody wants to try?” Many excited hands shot up, and mine, of course, was not one of them. Mrs. Green smiled. “We’ll talk more about it tomorrow,” she said. Then the bell rang and my classmates slowly left the classroom.注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。When I was loading up my backpack, Mrs. Green invited me to her office. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Hearing Mrs. Green’s words, I realized that it was time to made a change. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
