Emjis are used everywhere, frm text messages t emails, blgs and ther scial media netwrks. With the rapid develpment f scial media, emjis are becming an integral cmpnent f the language we use t express urselves.

1. What des the wrd “emji” cme frm and what are “emjis”?
The wrd “emji” cmes frm Japanese , literally meaning “ picture character”. Emjis are small symbls representing ideas, emtins r feelings. They cme in different categries, such as faces and peple, plants and animals , and fd and drink.
2. The develpment f emjis:
In 1999, there were nly 176 simple designs.
Nw , there are mre than 3000 emjis that expand upn the way in which we cmmunicate.
Due t their ppularity, the Oxfrd Dictinaries Wrd f the Year in 2015 was , fr the first time ever, a pictgraph instead f a traditinal wrd.

3.Why d peple like emjis ? It seems that emjis have clear advantages ver written language. Because they add emtinal feeling, and are quick and easy t use. This is similar t the gestures we use when we speak.
Emjis can als help peple express their feelings when they cannt find the apprpriate wrds.

Fr example: A Shakespeare series fr yung readers has taken William Shakespeare’s ppular plays and replaced sme wrds with textspeak and emjis.
