Lk and discuss.1. What are the students learning in the pht?
I think the students are learning basic first aid, in particular CPR.
What is CPR?
心肺复苏(CPR)是对心跳、呼吸骤停的患者采取的救命技术,目的是恢复患者的自主呼吸和自主循环。
Lk and discuss.2. Have yu seen this technique used befre? D yu knw hw t d it?
I have never seen CPR perfrmed in real life, but I have ften seen it perfrmed in films and n TV, and I have read abut hw t d it. Yu press dwn n the chest f a victim every few secnds.I dn’t think I’m cnfident enugh t try it myself thugh.
Lk and discuss.3. D yu think it’s imprtant fr the students t learn this? Why?
It is imprtant because if smene’s heart r breathing stps, they usually have nly three t nine minutes befre their brain suffers irreversible damage because f a lack f xygen, unless CPR is perfrmed. Hwever, it may take anywhere frm 10-20 minutes befre an ambulance cmes nce yu call an emergency service.

Discuss these questins in grups.1. What firs-aid techniques d yu knw f?2. If smene yu knw suffered a burn, what wuld yu d?
I knw basically what t d if smene breaks a leg r gets a cut.
It depends n the kind f burn. All f the burns I’ve ever seen were fairly minr, s the best thing t d was t put it under cld running water t stp the burning.

TYPES OF BURNSBurns are divided int three types, depending n the depth f skin damage.First-degree burns These affect nly the tp few millimetres f the skin. These burns are nt serius. Examples include mild sunburn and burns caused by ther minr husehld incidents.Secnd-degree burns These g belw the tp layer f the skin. They are serius and take a few weeks t get better. Examples include burns caused by ht liquids.Third-degree burns These affect every layer f the skin, and smetimes the tissue under it. Examples include burns caused by electric shcks, burning clthes, r petrl fires. These burns cause very severe internal injuries and the victim must g t the hspital at nce.

FIRST-AID TREATMENT1 Place burns under cl running water, especially within the first ten minutes. The cl water stps the burning prcess and reduces the pain and swelling.2 Dry the burnt area gently with a clean clth.3 Remve any clthes using scissrs if necessary, unless yu see the fabric sticking t the burnt skin.4 Cver the burnt area with a lse clean clth. Applying il t the injured areas is a bad idea, as it will keep the heat in the wunds and may cause infectin.5 If burns are n the face, make sure the victim can still breathe.6 If the victim is suffering frm secnd r third-degree burns, there is an urgent need t take him/her t the hspital at nce.
