After 3-4mnths f practising ht yga, my arms and legs were beginning t get definitin. I als wke up with s much mre energy than I had befre starting my yga practice and I gradually started shedding the punds (减轻体重) frm my bdy. Science fictin writers create imaginary wrlds. The way things wrk in yur imaginary wrlds will be based n actual science. S it’s imprtant fr yu t be familiar with the scientific principles and inventins that are related t yur creatin. Fr example, if yu’re writing abut humans living n a planet with zer gravity, then yu need t knw the effects f zer gravity n the human bdy.
Then yu have t figure ut the exact rules f yur imaginary wrlds. And yu have t fllw them. If humans have evlved (进化) t breathe underwater in Chapter 1, yur character can’t drwn in a swimming pl in Chapter 3. If yur rbts write petry but nt fictin, then yu can’t thrw a nvelist rbt int Chapter 8. The issue here is maintaining yur readers’ trust. That means the reader is willing t pretend alng with yu. If yu start ut with an rdinary detective nvel (侦探小说) and then thrw in smene breathing underwater in the 6th chapter, yur readers’ reactin might be, “What the h……?” The imaginative spell is brken. Yu’ve pulled the readers ut f their imaginatin. The same thing happens if yu change the rules halfway.
Part f yur preparatin wrk fr the nvel is t map ut its wrlds fr yurself in great detail. Decide: the histry f the wrld, the gegraphy, what pssibilities it ffers, hw everything wrks in this new reality, and hw all f these factrs affect the way yur characters think, feel, and react t things. Yu dn’t have t tell yur readers all the rules in the first chapter. But yu have t let yur readers knw enugh t understand what’s ging n. This als allws yu t wrk ut lgical prblems and cntradictins (矛盾) befre yu start writing.
When yu are writing, remember t make it feel real. Yu are inviting readers t visit a new wrld. They will want t be able t see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste what it’s like. Whether yur nvel is abut a wrld withut disease r an undiscvered planet, help yur readers feel like they’re actually there.
    46. What’s the relatinship between actual science and science fictin?
    A. Science fictin prmtes the develpment f actual science.
    B. Science fictin ften reflects the develpment f actual science.
    C. Actual science limits the imaginatin described in science fictin.
    D. Actual science prvides basic principles fr science fictin.
    47. The secnd paragraph is mainly develped by ________.
    A. making cmparisnsB. giving examples
    C. fllwing the time rderD. analyzing causes
    48. Which f the fllwing statements is TRUE?
    A. It is necessary t d sme scientific experiments befre writing science fictin.
    B. It is mre difficult t write science fictin than rdinary detective nvels.
    C. Readers f science fictin actually pretend the writers’ rules are true.

    50. The passage is mainly abut ________.
    A. hw t d scientific researchB. hw t raise interest in science
    C. what t expect frm science fictinD. hw t write science fictin

As the saying ges, “All rads lead t Rme” — but was that really the case? The answer is nt as easy as an unqualified “yes” r “n”. It’s a little mre cmplicated than that.
In 2015, three researchers at the Mvel Lab drpped a unifrm grid (网格) f almst 500,000 pints acrss a map f Eurpe. These pints were simply randm spts frm which t start a jurney t Rme. The team then develped a methd t calculate the best rute t Rme using mdern rutes frm each f thse starting pints. The mre frequently a rad was used acrss the different pints, the thicker it was drawn n the map. Their results shwed many rads led t Rme, cnnecting ther majr cities alng the way, such as Lndn, Cnstantinple (present-day Istanbul) and Paris, which were als part f the ancient empire.
News f the map spread quickly, but it didn’t actually prve that all rads lead t Rme. If the researchers had cnducted the same exercise and lked at the quickest way frm thse same 500,000 pints t Berlin r Mscw, the map wuld als shw similar results.
The team used cmputer mdeling t lk at mst lgical rutes that cnnect tw pints n the landscape, and then cmpared that with their knwledge f Rman rads t see if they’re similar. Mdern rutes are ften the same in mst cases. In ther wrds, many f Eurpe’s multi-lane highways are the successrs (继承者) f Rman rads.
In ancient times rads were mainly built t ensure peple culd travel arund within a shrt time. This has changed in recent years, hwever; newly built mtrways avid ppulated places t save mney in acquiring land.
The main rads in ancient Rme were straight lines whenever gegraphy allwed. These majr rads were built with different layers like earth and rck, and finally big pieces f stne n the tp. They weren’t flat, but had a rund rf t allw prper drainage (排水). Then came ther secndary dirt rads that weren’t paved. They cnnected smaller twns and cities, rather than ffering any srt f a rute t Rme.
S, was the saying in Paragraph 1 right? N, but an awful lt f imprtant nes eventually made their way there.
    51. What is the purpse f quting the saying?
    A. T draw a cnclusin.B. T present an argument.
    C. T intrduce the tpic f the text.D. T give an answer t the questin.
    52. What did the team d with the new methd mentined in Paragraph 2?
    A. They fund the best web f rads leading t Rme.
    B. They cunted all the existing rads in Rme.
    C. They shwed the layut f cities in Eurpe.
    D. They drew the map f ancient Rme.
    53. What might be a significance f building Rman rads?
    A. It cnnected urban areas and rural areas.
    B. It changed the histry f Eurpean rads.
    C. It cntributed t traffic rules f tw runways.
    D. It set a gd example t Eurpean rad styles.
    54. What did peple attach imprtance t while building rads in ancient times?
    A. Whether the rads were wide enugh.
    B. Whether the rads helped cllect rainwater.
    C. Whether the rads helped peple save time.
    D. Whether the rads were clse t peple’s residences
    55. Which can be the best title fr the text?

Whether yur nvel is abut a wrld withut disease r an undiscvered planet, help yur readers feel like they’re actually there.

根据第一段的“He was very thin, and lked and smelled near death.(他很瘦,看起来和闻起来都快死了)”,当作者找到Lucky时,他看起来很瘦,和虚弱,看起来快要死了。 He was very thin and weak/ He was clse t dying.
根据第二段的“Lucky had been wned by a man called Fred, wh had a mental disrder and tk medicine every day. This medicine made him sleep quite deeply, s Fred nly tk it at bedtime. (Lucky的主人是一个叫Fred的人,他患有精神障碍,每天都在吃药。这种药使他睡得很沉,所以弗雷德只在睡觉时服用)”以及第三段中“One night, Fred tk his medicine, went t bed and fell sund asleep. The huse wiring shrted and set the huse n fire. Being under the medicine’s pwer, Fred just kept sleeping.(一天晚上,弗雷德吃了药,躺在床上睡着了。房子的电线短路了,房子着火了。在药物的作用下,弗雷德一直在睡觉。)”可知,Fred每天吃的药有副作用,让他睡的很沉,所以在大火中没有醒过来。故答案为:The side effect f medicine that he had taken.
根据第四段中“After the fire, Fred had t mve int an apartment, where he culdn’t keep animals.(火灾发生后,弗雷德不得不搬进一间公寓,在那里他不能饲养动物)”可知,Fred新搬进的公寓不能养动物,也就是这所公寓不允许动物进入。 Because animals weren’t allwed t enter the new apartment he mved in.
根据最后一段的“He sunds like he has a thrat full f pea gravel (豆砾石) but he has the spirit f a lin.(他听起来喉咙里塞满了豌豆砾石,但他有狮子的精神)”可知,Lucky的声音听起来就像喉咙里塞满了豌豆砾石,所以他在大火当中吸入了很多的烟,以至于伤了喉咙。 Breathed in./ Sucked in.
Because he was brave t save his frmer wner’s life and he ught t be taken gd care f.”,意为“是的,我会收养他。因为他勇敢地救了前主人的命,应该好好照顾他”,也可以回答为“Yes, fr his bravery and resilience despite his past hardships.”,意为“是的,会收养,因为要感谢他在过去的磨难中表现出的勇敢和坚韧。”。故答案为Open./ Yes, I wuld. Because he was brave t save his frmer wner’s life and he ught t be taken gd care f./ Yes, fr his bravery and resilience despite his past hardships.
