    Pincchi may be just a character in a children's fairy tale, but Spanish scientists at the University f Granada recently investigated the s-called “Pincchi effect” and fund that ur nses dn't grw when we tell a lie, but actually shrink a bit.
    Dr Gómez Milán and his team develped a lie detectr test that used thermgraphy (温度记录法) t tell if peple were lying, and fund that whenever participants in their research were being untruthful, the temperature f the tip f their nse drpped up t 1.2℃, while the temperature f their frehead increased up t 1.5℃. Scientists als fund that the temperature drp actually caused the nse t slightly shrink, althugh the difference is undetected by the human eye.
    “One has t think in rder t lie, which raises the temperature f the frehead,” Dr Gómez Milán explained the findings. “At the same time we feel anxius, which lwers the temperature f the nse.”
    Fr this study, researchers asked 60 students t perfrm varius tasks while their temperature is scanned by thermal imaging (热成像) technlgy. One f these tasks invlved making a 3-t 4-minute call t their parents r a friend and telling a significant lie. Participants had t make up the lie themselves during the call. Interestingly, the thermal lie detectr picked up the temperature difference in 80 percent f the test subjects, which is a better rate f success than that f any mdern lie detectr.
    “With this methd we have achieved the increase f accuracy,” said Dr Gómez Milán, wh added that law enfrcement agencies culd ne day cmbine ther lie detectin technlgies with thermal imaging t achieve better results.

    Bishp's painful childhd is apparent in sme f her pems. Her father died when she was eight mnths ld and her mther was mad when she was five. Bishp was raised firstly by her mther's parents and then by her father's parents. This experience left her cnfused abut belnging. She had n hme and this was shwn in her petry. In APrdigal, when the character in the pem makes up his mind t g hme, there is a sense f pessimism fr Bishp wh has n hme. The lack f a sense f hme has cntributed t her depressin all her life.
    Bishp attempts t make small, everyday experiences extrardinary in her pems such as FillingStatin. In FillingStatin, Bishp describes the beauty f a family filling statin. Althugh it is “dirty”, there is rder in it. Simple family life is celebrated in it. She recgnizes the value f hme and beauty in everyday life, but she is nly an bserver f these. Distance remains between her and the family at the filling statin.
    Bishp's struggle t lcate herself in the wrld is seen n mre clearly than in Sandpiper. It deals with searching fr smething in a cnfusing wrld. She uses the metaphr (暗喻) f the bird which is “lking fr smething”. The “smething” isn't specific. It seems as if the bird desn't knw what he wants; the nly certain thing is that he is searching.
    Bishp's pems are persnal n a mre subtle (巧妙的) level, especially when her childhd, travels etc. are taken int cnsideratin. It is believed that Bishp is a cmplex pet wh uses her petry t find the feeling f belnging.
