Step 2 Observing
1. Work on Activity 1. Students find and underline the restrictive relative clauses in the following sentences.
- Students translate the sentences into Chinese. Think about which noun is modified by the relative clause and the function of the restrictive relative clauses.
- Students find more sentences with restrictive relative clauses from the text on page 50.
设计意图:该环节让学生通过观察例句,发现句子中的目标语法结构,通过英汉翻译练习进一步感知定语从句在语言表达中所起到的作用。
Step 3 Grammar summary

Step 4 Practice
1. Work on Activity 2. Students complete the sentences with that, which, who, whose, whom, or “/”. Then translate the sentences into Chinese.
2. Students work in pairs on Exercise 2 of the workbook page 90. Use a restrictive relative clause to combine each pair of sentences. Then check the answers.
3. Work in pairs on Activity 3. Take turns to ask each other about the pictures. Make sentences with restrictive relative clauses using that, which, who, whose, or whom.
