1．Talk t Ss abut the cntext f surviving an earthquake. Elicit any infrmatin abut the earthquakes in Taiwan r in ther parts f the wrld．Bring sme newspaper articles abut earthquakes.
2．Ask Ss t quickly skim the text n their wn. Ask them t highlight the wrds they d nt knw. Then ask Ss t discuss them in pairs and try t wrk ut their meaning frm the cntext.
3．Ask Ss t make list f wrds and phrases used in the text which describe nise and mvement/destructin, fear and hpe.
nise: big nise, thunder, screamed, real nise, bmbs, shuted
mvement/ destructin: slight shaking, earth started t shake, ran (wildly), pieces f glass and bricks fell dwn, walls began t cme dwn

4．Read Timmy’s stry alud．Ask Ss t listen carefully.
5．Check general understanding f the different paragraphs by asking sme ‘wh-’ questins.
