Perhaps thousands of people have searched for a bronze chest full of gold and jewels hidden in the Rocky Mountains between Santa Fe and the Canadian border hidden by a millionaire adventurer. At least four people died in their search for the treasure.

But its all over now.Fenns Treasure has been found. The 89-year-old adventurer named Forrest Fenn, who created the treasure hunt, announced the news via his website.“I dont know the person who found it,but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot, Fenn wrote.“The treasure was confirmed by a photograph the lucky finder sent me.”

Forrest Fenn, the man who started the hunt, lives in Santa Fe.He was a pilot in the Vietnam War and later accumulated his wealth as a dealer in art and antiques.Fenn was diagnosed(诊断) with cancer in 1988 and had planned to die peacefully in the woods with his treasure. But when his cancer became less serious,he changed his plan, eventually writing the poem that described his dream resting place, which is where he hid the treasure. The poem appeared in a memoir called The Thrill of the Chase.Fenn said that the chest wouldnt be found by accident;only a treasure hunter who correctly interpreted the clues would find it.

Several treasure hunters went missing while attempting to find the chest, including hunter Jeff Murphy and Mike Petersen, both of whom went missing in Yellowstone National Park in 2017.Fenn said that he had never been to the Yellowstone National Park, and that the treasure was not in a dangerous place.“It was in the thick forest of the Rocky Mountains and had not been moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago, Fenn wrote on his website. It is illegal to remove anything from a national park, which would cause trouble in legally claiming the treasure if it was found there.

    A Fenns announcement.

    B.A poem in Fenns book.

    C.Fenns vivid description.

C.It was moved from one place to another.

D.It was in Fenns chosen resting place.

7.What does the underlined word claiming in the last paragraph probably mean?

    A.Taking. B.Burying

    C.Protecting. D.Acknowledging.

The alarm went off about half an hour ago,the second time tonight. Its somewhat difficult to figure out the rules for sure. Here, one bell means elephant, two, rhino(犀牛),and three and four,I really cant remember for what, because when youre awoken by bells in the middle of the night, your first thought wont be any animal! But as soon as I realized it was the rhino alarm,I was running for the stairs.

A baby African buffalo(水牛) and a baby rhino stood a couple feet apart, staring at each other.Behind them, their mothers were looking on with the kind of indifference of mothers everywhere who see their kids playing a harmless game.Of course,I was the only one watching the animals stare down.Either everyone else died of a heart attack when the bells went off,or I was the only one in the entire hotel who didnt turn the alarm switch off before going to bed.

The Ark(方舟),a hotel shaped like the ark in the Bible, lies in the highlands of Kenyas Aberdare National Park, about 100 kilometers north of Nairobi. At the Arks prow(船首) are huge windows overlooking a waterhole.Earlier tonight,Id watched a pack of wolves, buffaloes and elephants. And now,at three or so in the morning,Im down for rhino bells. The first time,2.5 hours ago,it was a single black rhino, which came down, got a drink, and left.

Id have been sorry for the lost sleep.Ive already arranged with a guide to take me out at sunrise for the so-called should-never-miss bird-watching,where well get to see 30 species, but really, how many times in your life will you get to wake up and say,Wow!Rhino!?Isnt that the definition of a pretty good night?Last week we went from Uganda into Kenya. Before I left home,I thought Id be happy with ten elephants and five or six giraffes on the whole trip.I didnt dare to dream the rhino.

8.What do we know about the message that the hotels bells sent?

A.It was significant for visitors to avoid danger.

B.It was a matter that all visitors had got used to.

C.It was hard for the author to remember in detail.

D.It was a wise alarm the author had never heard of.

9.What did the author see at about 3:00 am?

A.Rhinos and buffaloes were fighting for water.

B.A rhino and a buffalo were staring at each other.

C.A buffalo was watching its baby play with rhinos.

    D.A boat-shaped hotel was overlooking a waterhole.

10.What can we learn from the passage?

A.The author likes all the animals.

B.The author is only interested in rhinos.

C.There are various wild animals near the Ark.

D.The author didnt sleep well during the whole trip.

11.Whats probably the authors attitude towards the bell?

A.It should be turned off when it rings.

    B.Its bothering but rewarding.

C.It is a bad way to wake the guests up.

D.It brings visitors a chance to see buffaloes.

Many US movies and TV shows have been filmed here.”

Lombard Street is so named for its multiple hairpin turns.”

根据Palace of Fine Arts部分中的On top of the dusky red stone pillars stand sculptures of nymphs, which are a favorite subject of many photographers.” 故选A项。

I dont know the person who found it,but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot可知,Fenn书里面的一首诗促成了宝藏的发现,故选B项。

Forrest Fenn, the man who started the hunt, lives in Santa Fe.He was a pilot in the Vietnam War and later accumulated his wealth as a dealer in art and antiques.” Fenn said that the chest wouldnt be found by accident;only a treasure hunter who correctly interpreted the clues would find it.”

But when his cancer became less serious,he changed his plan, eventually writing the poem that described his dream resting place, which is where he hid the treasure.”

It is illegal to remove anything from a national park可知,从国家公园带走任何东西都是违法的,因此which would cause trouble in legally claiming the treasure if it was found there这一部分应表示如果宝藏在国家公园被发现的话,想要合法地带走宝藏就会引起不少麻烦,由此可知画线词意为带走,拿走,故选A项。

Here, one bell means elephant, two, rhino, and three and four,I really cant remember for what, because when youre awoken by bells in the middle of the night, your first thought wont be any animal!

A baby African buffalo and a baby rhino stood a couple feet apart, staring at each other.” And now,at three or so in the morning,Im down for rhino bells.”

Earlier tonight,Id watched a pack of wolves,buffaloes and elephants.”

由第一段的描述尤其是其中的when youre awoken by bells in the middle of the night, your first thought wont be any animal可推断出,作者最开始对铃声感觉很恼火;再根据最后一段中的how many times in your life will you get to wake up and say,Wow!Rhino!?Isnt that the definition of a pretty good night?
