设计说明

首先，谈论暑假活动，引导学生转入学习状态，通过谈论新学期第一天的相关事宜导入新课。接着，利用图片，通过介绍新学期第一天的新变化教授本课生词。然后，在此话题的基础上，利用听对话回答问题的方式导入对对话的学习，并通过读后回答问题、读后填空、阅读找重要的表达并翻译、跟读并介绍李明或丹尼八年级第一天的情况等活动逐步深入学习对话内容。最后，处理Let’s Do It?中剩余的练习题。整个教学采用任务型教学的方法，以多样化的阅读来帮助学生更好地学好本课节内容。

教学目标

通过本课节的教学，让学生达成以下目标：

掌握单词：physics

接触单词：Sandra, Cox, recent

短语和句型：One… and the other…, introduce…to…

2.能力目标

(1)能听懂有关谈论新学期的对话；

(2)能用英语谈论开学第一天的有关事情。

Step 1  Warming up

Have a free talk between the teacher and the students.

1. Talk about the summer vacation.

  How was your summer vacation?

What did you do during your summer vacation?

Did you go anywhere for your vacation?

Where did you go?

Who did you go with?

What do you think of the place?

2. Talk about the first day of a new term.

  Are you happy to be back to school?

How do you feel to see your classmates again?

Is there anything new to tell us?

Do you have new classmates?

Do you have new teachers?

What about your subjects?

Step 2  Presentation  

Teach the new words Cox, Sandra, physics, recent.

Show the students pictures to teach them by introducing the first day of the new term.

Teacher says:

This term, I have a new teacher. She is Ms. Cox. And I have a new classmate. Her name is Sandra. I also have a new subject. It’s physics. We’ll look for a recent picture of ourselves to make a class picture.

Step 3  Listening and answering

Teacher says: Now, Li Ming and Danny are talking about their first day of Grade 8. Listen and answer the following questions.

1. How was Danny’s first day of Grade 8?

2. How is Grade 8 for Li Ming?

Answers: 1. It was great.

     2. It’s almost the same as Grade 7.

Step 4  Reading

1. Get the students to read the dialogue and answer the following questions. (Let’s Do It! No. 1)

(1)How many new classmates does Danny have? What are their names?

(2) What advice does Li Ming give Danny on how to start a conversation with Sandra?

(3)Li Ming has a new subject this year. What is it?

(4)What will Li Ming do to prepare for his class tomorrow? Why?

Answers:

(1) Danny has two new classmates this term. One is Sandra and the other is Mary.

(2) Danny can introduce himself to Sandra. He can also ask her questions.

(3) It is physics./ Physics.

(4) He will look for a good picture of himself. He will use it to make a class picture tomorrow.

2. Get the students to read the dialogue and fill in the blanks.

It was the _________ day of Grade 8. Danny was _________ to see his classmates after such a long holiday. Sandra and Mary are his _________ classmates. Step 5  Reading and retelling

1. Get the students to read the dialogue following the recording.

2. Get the students to tell the class how Li Ming’s/Danny’s first day of Grade 8 was.

Step 6  Exercises

1. Play the recording of the passage for the students to listen and tick the correct pictures. (Let’s Do It! No. 2)

2. Get the students to fill in the blanks with the words or phrase in the box. (Let’s Do It! No. 3)

When you have trouble finding answers to questions on your own, there are a few things you can do. You can _________ your teacher or your classmates for help. Step 8  Summary

 Sum up what we’ve learnt in this period with the class.

Step 9  Language points

1. One is Sandra and the other is Mary.

  一个是桑德拉，另一个是玛丽。

  one…and the other… 一个……，另一个…… 。用于两者之间。

  the other “另一个”，特指两者中的另外一个。

表示三者或三者以上的“另一个”，用another。

  He has two pencils. One is red and the other is blue.

  他有两支铅笔。一支是红色的，另一支是蓝色的。

  I have a lot of toys, but I’m going to buy another one.

  我有很多玩具，但我打算再买一个。

2. I wanted to talk to Sandra, but I didn’t know how to begin.

   我想和桑德拉聊聊，但是我不知道怎样开始。

   how to begin是“疑问词 + to do”结构，在句中作know的宾语，相当于宾语从句 how I could begin。 “疑问词 + to do”结构可在句中作主语、宾语、宾语补足语等。

   I don’t know what to say at the meeting.

   = I don’t know what I will say at the meeting.

    我不知道在会议上说什么。

   Tell me when to hold the meeting.

   = Tell me when we are going to hold the meeting.

   告诉我什么时候开会。

3. Well, you can introduce yourself to her.

  哦，你可以向她作自我介绍。

  introduce  vt. 介绍

  introduce sb. to sb.把某人介绍给某人

  introduce oneself to sb. 向某人作自我介绍

  Tom, let me introduce my brother to you.

  汤姆，让我把我弟弟介绍给你。

  Hello! I’m your new friend. I’ll introduce myself to you all.

  大家好！我是你们的新朋友。我将向你们所有人作自我介绍。

辨析： look for，find与 find out

He is looking for his pen, but he can’t find it. Can you help him find out who took it away？他正在找他的钢笔，但是他没有找到。你能帮助他查明是谁拿走了它吗？
