（1）On this day, Dr. Martin Luther King was killed.   在这一天，马丁·路德·金博士被杀害了。

释： was killed 意为“被杀”， “be +动词的过去分词”为被动语态，意为“被……”

  He was asked many questions at the meeting.   在会上，他被问了很多问题。

  The room is cleaned on Sundays.             这个房间星期天有人打扫。

（2）My parents were completely shocked!  我的父母完全震惊了。

释：▲completely 副词，意为“彻底地；完全地”，修饰动词和形容词。

     In the end the wind went away completely. 最后风彻底平息了。

     You are both completely wrong. 你们俩完全错了。

▲shocked 形容词，意为“惊愕的，受震惊的”，常在句中做表语。

           I was shocked when the boy lifted the big stone. 当那个男孩举起这块大石头时我震惊了。

         ▲shocked “受震惊的”，表示人对事、物的感受，主语通常为人

           shocking “令人震惊的”，表示事、物的性质或状态，主语通常为物

           We were shocked at the shocking news.

释：▲ the rest of … 意为“其余的…； 剩下的”。做主语时，谓语动词的数要与the rest of 修饰的名词或代词一致。

       The rest of the workers are still working hard. 其余的工人仍在努力地工作。

       The rest of the meat has gone bad. 剩下的肉变质了。

▲ silence 名词， 意为“沉默；缄默；无声”，常构成短语in silence

   Why did you leave me in silence? 为何你一言不发离我而去。

拓展： silent 形容词，意为“寂静的，无声的”

       The birds are silent in the trees. 鸟在树上悄然无声。

（4）More recently, most Americans remember what they were doing when the World Trade Center in New York was taken down by terrorists.更近一点，绝大多数美国人都记得纽约世贸大楼被恐怖分子摧毁时他们在做什么。

▲ recently 副词，意为“不久前，最近”。其比较级形式是more recently，意为“更近地”

▲ take down是“动词+副词”构成的短语，意为“拆除，推倒”。代词做宾语时应放在take与down之间；名词做宾语时放在down前后均可。

The bridge is dangerous, and the workers are taking it down.

这座桥很危险，工人们正在拆除它。
