① Can yu drive a car at the age f seventeen in England?
at the age f 在……岁时e.g. She gt her first gld medal at the age f 15.=She gt her first gld medal at age 15/at 15.=She gt her first gld medal when she was 15.
at the age f 其后直接接基数词,相当于“at age+ 基数词”,“at+ 基数词” 或when 引导的时间状语从句。
② clean up bedrm nce a week
clean up 清理,把……
tidy up 和clean up 词义相近,意为“收拾”,但clean up 强调结果,而tidy up 强调过程。
③ I mustn’t stay up late in the evening.
stay up 熬夜e.g. I am ging t stay up late t finish my paper.
④ Jenny culd nt wait t pen her birthday presents.
can’t wait t d sth. I can’t wait t see all again. They culdn’t wait t meet the famus mvie star.
情态动词can, must, need 和had better
3. 在回答以can 开头的一般疑问句时,肯定回答用can, 否定回答用can’t 或mustn’t。
e.g. Yu can take the car, if yu want. Yu can’t park here—it’s a n-parking zne. —Can I read yur newspaper? 我可以看一下你的报纸吗?—Yes, yu can./N, yu can’t.
e.g. He can answer the questin. I can’t prmise anything, but I’ll d what I can.
e.g. Can he still be alive after all this time?
对于以must 开头的一般疑问句,若作否定回答,可以用needn’t 或dn’t have t,不用mustn’t。
e.g. Jane’s light is n. She must be at hme. She can’t be ut.
e.g. Everyne must bey the law. The last bus has gne. We’ll have t walk hme.
e.g. Yu lk tired. Yu’d better lie in bed and have a gd rest.
