第一节
(Text 1)
W:So I turn left at the traffic lights, right?
M:Yeah. Then keep walking until you reach the post office. You can’t miss it.
(Text 2)
W:Shall we go and see that new romantic comedy?
M:Oh,no,not another love story, how about a nice one for a change?
W:I’m not interested.Well, that new science fiction film is meant to be quite funny and has brilliant special effects.
M:Sounds good to me!
(Text 3)
W:I thought you couldn’t touch the ball with your hands in soccer. Why didn’t the referee say anything?
M:Yeah, but at this level, the referees and coaches probably just want our kids to have a good time.
(Text 4)
M:Hi,Kim.What’s up?Are you going to Main Street,too?
W:Yeah.I want to get there as fast as I can.I need to book a birthday cake. But before that,I’ve got to mail some letters.
(Text 5)
M:So do you like the book I bought you last week?
W:Well,I have to use the dictionary all the time to read it.
第二节
(Text 6)
M:Hey,Anne, there’s a guy in my Spanish class who’s really cool. He’s really friendly and easy to talk to.He just always seems happy.
W:Oh,really? He must have a lot of friends.
M:Yes,I think he does.He tells really funny jokes all the time, too.I’m always laughing in class.
W:Man!He sounds great!
M:Well,he is,but he forgets his books every day. Then he asks to share mine.I hate that!
W:Sounds like we have a lot in common.I always forget my books, too.I’d love to meet him.Tom,why don’t you introduce us some time?
(Text 7)
W:Someone’s just stolen my wallet.I left it on this table while I went to the restroom...and when I came back,I saw this guy running out of the café.He was about 17 with short blond hair.I noticed he had a scar on his forehead.
M:OK,madam.I’ll call the police now.But I’m afraid we aren’t responsible for your loss although it took place here.
W:I know.
(Text 8)
W:We’re almost out of fresh onions and garlic. Can you pick up some when you go to the store? It’s Monday now...I’ll need them by Saturday morning,in order to make my beef dish for the party on Sunday.
M:I’ll get more garlic, but I’m not buying fresh onions anymore.
W:Why not?We use them very often in our cooking. They’re much better than dry onions.
M:You can grow them yourself.Right on the window.Just leave a few centimetres by the root when you cut the onions that you have left.Tie the roots together and put the bottoms in a bowl of water. They will grow, and we’ll never have to buy fresh onions again!
W:But I need onions in five days.I’m sure these won’t be ready in time. Can’t we just buy some more tomorrow?
M:Put the roots in water tonight. You will see how quickly they grow. They’re just like bamboo! You should have plenty by Saturday.
(Text 9)
W:Can you tell me about shopping in New York?
M:Sure. There’s a place on East 73rd Street called Fig Tree that is just amazing. It has lots of designer clothes. If you try something on,the staff will serve you coffee and biscuits. But you must take enough money. The clothes there will cost you a fortune.
W:Well,are there any cheaper places?
M:If you are looking for designer clothes but at low prices, you should visit Le Magasin on West 14th Street. It usually gets so busy inside,so they have to stop more people from going inside by offering a covered waiting area outside the store.
W:That’s amazing.Well,I’ve heard about a great store called Red Door on South 20th Street. It has lots of designer clothes and everything is clean and in great condition. It also offers green tea.
M:Yes,they do.And the different sections are really clear and easy to find as well.
W:Great. That will be my first shopping stop!
(Text 10)
W:Hello, everyone!I’m Diana.I’m studying in Britain now.Everybody here is very kind to me,but there are times when I think of home and get rather sad.I sometimes get a little tired of English cooking.Once a week I go to Soho.Soho is a part of London where there are all sorts of restaurants,French,Italian,Greek,Spanish,Indian and Chinese. So when I’m tired of English cooking,I go to one of the Soho restaurants.
Sometimes I even have a bottle of wine!Wine isn’t cheap in England.I only drink it sometimes.
English people do not talk as much as we do.I’ve travelled by train many times and nobody has spoken to me during the journeys.I know one Englishman who is unusual. He speaks seven languages. But he is always silent.I’ve found one way to make him talk.
He’s interested in mountain climbing. If I ask him about climbing,he’s always ready to talk.
