第一节
(Text 1)
W:Yesterday I booked a flight for my trip to Osaka next week.I’m leaving soon.
M:Great! You haven’t had any time off for almost two years.
(Text 2)
M:It looks like it should be a nice day,but it’s still cold outside.
W:At least it’s not raining. The weather forecast says the sun will come out of hiding in the afternoon.
(Text 3)
M:You’re planning a trip for next summer vacation?Where are you going?
W:Yeah.I plan to tour Egypt. So I must finish my degree in time. And I’m doing part-time jobs to get enough money.
(Text 4)
W:I made your favourite dish tonight—seashell noodles. How much meat sauce would you like?
M:Oh,not too much, please.I love this food, but the doctor told me to eat less meat and more vegetables.
(Text 5)
W:Philip, have you got a meeting in Edinburgh?
M:Yes,I’m going to see some leaders from headquarters. Why?
W:I’m going to visit Glasgow on Wednesday, and it’s quite near Edinburgh.
M:Ah...I’m going to drive there tomorrow,so you can go with me.
第二节
(Text 6)
W:Are you ready for the big presentation on Friday?
M:Didn’t you hear? It’s been moved to Thursday.Luckily, everything is almost ready to go.I just finished adding all of the figures on Tuesday. All I have to do now is print it out.
W:What about practising the presentation? Then you can have a general idea of how long each step of it may take. When I did mine last Wednesday,I almost ran out of time.
(Text 7)
M:I’m thinking of going to Singapore around New Year’s Day for two weeks. It’s such a beautiful country,Laura.
W:Have you been there before?
M:No,but I’ve seen some of Alan’s pictures of his hometown, and it really made me want to visit.
W:Have you booked a flight?
M:Not yet.I’ll probably buy my tickets sometime next month.
W:Wouldn’t they be cheaper now?You can usually get better prices if you buy in advance.
M:I know, but Jenny wants to go with me,and she still has to ask her boss for the time off.I don’t want to change my ticket again and again.
W:No doubt!
(Text 8)
M:Good morning.What can I do for you?
W:Hi,I’m thinking about buying a new cellphone.
M:OK.What do you think about this one,the Legend WS 5?
W:Well,it looks beautiful but don’t you think it is too big for girls?
M:Yes,a little.Perhaps this one,Imagination F6.It’s very small but it has enough useful functions.Besides the basic functions like making calls, sending messages,it also has several hot games in it.
W:Actually I seldom have time for games.
M:It also has Bluetooth inside so that you can connect it with your computer or other phones easily.
W:OK.
M:Oh,it has a memory card with 64G memory, which enables you to store plenty of information, pictures and music you like.
W:Wooh... That’s really impressive!I’ll take this one.How much is it?
M:It’s 200 dollars.
W:Well,it’s a little out of my budget.
M:Don’t worry about it.We have a special promotion these days.So you can get a 10% discount for this phone.
W:Great!
(Text 9)
W:Those are beautiful pictures on your wall,Jack.Do you know who the artist is?
M:Yes,I’m actually the artist!I painted those pictures.
W:You did?I’m so impressed!I had no idea that you were an artist. How long have you been making art?
M:Well,I have been drawing for a long time—about ten years.I loved to look at pictures and photographs when I was a child. As I got older,I decided to make pictures myself. And I started painting two years ago.
W:I see.Did you take art classes or teach yourself?
M:I didn’t take any art classes until last year.I’ve been taking a college class for a year about the great painters throughout history.I want to learn from them and their paintings.I want to improve my skills and become a better painter.
W:That’s a good idea.I like to write stories,so I took a college class about writing. It definitely made me a much better writer.By the way, would you like to read my books?
M:Sounds great.Shall we show each other our works tomorrow?
W:I can’t wait!
(Text 10)
M:First,I’d like to thank everyone for coming tonight. It is so nice to have everyone here to celebrate this special day with me.I’d also like to thank my good friend David Arnold for organizing this wonderful party. My 20 years working at the university have been some of the happiest years of my life.I have been so lucky to have worked with so many good people.I am very happy that Anne Sharp will be taking over my position. She is a very experienced teacher, and I am encouraged to see she has such passion for this important job.I’d also like to congratulate her for getting married.Anne,I wish you a long and happy life, and I hope you enjoy your honeymoon in Australia. Finally,I’d like to thank Craig Anderson. It was he who had convinced me to work here, otherwise I would have become a fireman. So what will I do with myself now?As you know,I have a love for languages.I already speak Spanish,so my next wish is to learn Chinese. My wife and I will be going to China this summer,so we’ll see.Once again, thank you, everyone.I will truly miss you all.
