France’s first museum entirely devted t cntemprary art saw the light f day thanks t the determinatin f ne man — Gerges Pmpidu,an art lver wh served as France’s president frm 1969 t 1974.
In 1971,he started an internatinal cmpetitin t build the museum,riginally knwn as the Centre Beauburg.The winning team,which included three yung architects frm Britain and Italy,was cmpletely unknwn at the time.Renz Pian and Richard Rgers,the tw architects wh saw the prject thrugh,made the plan a reality.
