 Sing a song:

 At the zoo.(the song in Grade 3)

T: What can you hear in the song?

Ss: Cat, rat, monkey, giraffe …

Review the words of animals and make a word web.

There are many animals in the zoo, the zoo is never boring.

Go to see the animals in the zoo and describe their actions.

In order to fulfill the task, we need:

1. Review the words of animals: dog, bird, tiger, fish, monkey, panda ...

2. Review the actions: walk, swim, eat, drink, fly.

3. Learn the new words of actions: sleep, jump ...

4. Grasp the ing form of the actions: eating, flying, sleeping...

5. Gaspthe sentence pattern:

"The ... is/are ...ing." to describe the animals' actions.

What animals can you see in the zoo?

Make a word web of animals.

1. PPT shows the picture of a rabbit, lead the Ss to ask:

Rabbit, rabbit, what can you do?

Then PPT shows the jumping rabbit and it’s “dialogue box”, Ss fill in the blanks:

I am a ____,I can _____. Look, I’m ____ing!

T presents “–ing” form. Lead Ss say the sentence: The rabbit is jumping.

2. Teach “climbing”, “drinking”, “eating”, “playing”, “sleeping” in the same way.

T may ask some questions according to the picture of animals while teaching:

Is the rabbit sleeping?

Are the monkeys eating?

Lead the Ss answer:

Yes, it is./ No, it isn't.

Yes, they are./ No, they aren't.

3. Extense some other words, such as flying, swimming, running, walking, provide the Ss more and describe more,

Eg: Look at the ____. It can ____. It’s ___ing.

1.     Listen and react.
2.     Listen and number.

3. Read after the tape.

1. Act out the dialogue in roles.

2. Talk about other animals in the pictures on P52 by adapting the dialogues.

Eg:

A: The dog is climbing.

B: Yes, it's so cute.

A: Are these rabbits playing?

B: Yes, they are.

Let’s play.

One student impersonates an animal, other students guess: what animal is it, and then talk about the action of this animal.

T shows a zoo on PPT that many animals are doing different things.

Ss work in groups and every student may choose at least one animal and talk about its action.

1. Choose the best group.

2. T ask some questions according to the zoo on the PPT:

T: Is the panda drinking?

  Are the elephants climbing?

Ss answer.

What did we learn today?

1. Learn the new words of actions: sleep, jump ...

2. Learn the -ing form of the actions: eating, flying, sleeping...

3. Grasp the sentence pattern:

"The ... is/are ...ing." to describe the animals' actions.

1.  Listen to the tape and read the materials that we learned today.
2. Copy the words for 4 times and make sentences.
