| 1. Teacher asks students to look at the pictures on page27 and guess the content of the passage. 2. Teacher guides students to analyze the title “A New Chapter” and guess the content. What does chapter refer to? Is this chapter good or bad? Teacher encourages students to predict the author’s purpose in writing the passage. 3. Teacher asks the students to read the beginning and ending of the passage and first sentence of each paragraph to get the main idea. 4. Teacher asks students to choose the answer for Activity 3. | ||||||
8min | Reading for specific information | 1. Teacher asks Students to read the passage carefully and find evidence to support their choices for Activity 3. Question: where can we find clues? ---from Para. 5 to 8. Structure: Para. 1-4 the old Rainbow Bookstore Para. 5-8: the new Rainbow Bookstore 2. Teacher asks students to go through the passage again and draw a mind map of the old and the new Rainbow Bookstore. Find out what is similar afterwards. Give an example: The old store: a bunch of kids would frequently drop by after school; dusty shelf; The new store: book reading; sells stationery, posters and best-seller-themed gifts besides books; Similarities: sells books; the same old brick exterior… 3. Teacher encourages students to check the answers in groups and invite some students to present their mind map.

The reporter will asks some customers questions about the changes of the Rainbow Bookstore and how they think of the new chapter. Students can make use of their mind map while practicing. Teacher invites some groups to present their interview.
