2. Students can use the simple present tense of the verb to be to talk about some people or something.

Step I Presentation

1. Tell students today we’ll learn the simple present tense of the verb to be. (be动词一般现在时)

2. Ask students to look at some sentences and find the rules of simple present tense.

★ 描述客观事实

I am a student.

I am from China.

我来自中国。

★ 描述目前的事实

Sandy is my classmate.

She is 12 years old.   她十二岁。

★ 描述现在的状态

We are in class 1.

We are very happy.   我们非常高兴。

Step II Grammar

1. 学习一般现在时的基本概念。

   一般现在时表示现在发生的动作或存在的状态，也可表示经常性或习惯性的动作、真理或客观事实等。

2. 学习动词to be的三种形式：am, is, are。

3. 学习动词to be的一般现在时肯定句、否定句、疑问句及其肯定和否定回答形式。

be动词一般现在时的否定句是在be后面加not构成。动词be与not可以缩写，

如：is not = isn’t; are not = aren’t。

be动词一般现在时的一般疑问句是将be提前于句首构成。

Step III Exercises

1. 将下列句子变成:

(1) 一般疑问句并作肯定和否定回答;

(2) 变成否定句。

We are good friends.

Simon and Sandy are classmates.

Her hair is long.

2. Complete the sentences with the correct forms of the verb to be.

1. My name is Millie. I ___ 12 years old.

2. Hello, ____ you Simon?

3. They ____ my classmates. We ____ in Grade 7.

4. Look, Sandy ____ over there.

5. Mr Wu ____ our English teacher.

6. ____ our school nice, boys and girls?

Step IV Exercises on the book

Ask students to do the exercise B on page 12.

Step V Homework 

Review the simple present tense of the verb ‘to be’.
