Every Sunday morning I take a walk around a park near my home. There's a lake in one corner of the park. Each time I walk by this lake, I see the same elderly woman sitting at the water's edge with a small metal cage beside her.
This Sunday, I stopped walking and went over to her. As I got closer, I realized that there were three turtles(乌龟), unhurt, slowly walking around the base of the metal cage. She had a fourth turtle on her knee that she was carefully wiping with a brush, which made me feel surprised.
"Hello," I said. "If you don't mind my nosiness, I'd love to know what you're doing with these turtles."
"I'm cleaning off their shells," she replied.
"Anything on a turtle's shell weakens the turtle's ability to take in heat and blocks its ability to swim. It can also impair and weaken the shell over time."
She went on, "I spend a couple of hours each Sunday morning, relaxing by this lake and helping these little guys out. It's my own strange way of making a difference."
"Well then, don't you think your time could be better spent? It's a waste of time. And 99% of these turtles don't have kind people like you to help them clean off their shells. So, how exactly are your efforts here truly making a difference?"
The woman smiled, then looked down at the turtle on her knee, wiped off the last piece of algae(海藻)from its shell, and said, "Sweetie, if this little guy could talk, he'd tell you I just made all the difference in the world."

C
My father worked for The New York Times. He started in the delivery department and worked his way up into accounting(会计). In the end, he was required to apply for his own accounting job and forced to retire(退休)early. His experience, working for one company his entire life, is very rare(稀少的)these days. I believe in the future, even working for just one company at any given time will be rare.
The present structure of the employee-company relationship is 1-to-1. You work for one company and that company pays you. In the future the way we work and relationship structures will change. In fact, I am seeing it happening already. There are many people who are working for many companies. In most cases, the companies are not in competition, so there are no conflicts(冲突). I call this "emploayee sharing" or "work sharing".
The idea is similar to "time-sharing". In the same way people time-share vacation locations, companies will soon employee share. This is not temp(临时雇员)work, but companies acquiring(获得)a share of a person's available(可用的)hours. For example, if your company needs a marketer, you can buy a share of a marketing professional's time during the following week or month. These professionals will provide their expert knowledge and focus in that time paid.
The key is to group all of these professionals in one place, a website, where a company can go and look for experts who have time available. You also get experts from around the world, so if you need a salesperson in Milan, you can time-share with that person.
Lastly, the key is to make sure there is no conflict of interest. HR(human resources) and legal departments must get experienced in this area. The benefit to the professional is working for many companies, experiences, and keeping their interest continually energized(充满活力的). The benefit for the company is you use and pay for the skills you need, when you need them.
28. What do we know about the author's father?
A. He is an accountant now. B. He is highly valued by his company.
C. He worked for one company his whole life. D. He did many part-time jobs to earn his living.
29. What can be learnt about work sharing?
A. It is a one-to-many relationship.
B. It is far from similar to time-sharing.
C. It will cause competition among companies.
D. It is a popular working style in part-time working fields.
30. How is Paragraph 3 developed?
A. By describing a fact. B. By giving an example.
C. By making a debate. D. By explaining cause and effect.
31. What does the last paragraph suggest?
A. Work sharing may cause big conflicts.
B. Work sharing should be set in one place.
C. Work sharing will put an end to the HR department.
D. Work sharing is good for both employees and companies.
D
Warming temperatures and changing rainfall patterns may reduce diet diversity(多样性) among children around the world and may even destroy efforts to improve food security. Researchers analyzed the results of health surveys from more than 107.000 children in 19 countries-in Asia; North, south-east and West Africa; as well as Central and South America.
In the surveys, the diversity of a child's diet was quantified(量化)based on their intake of foods from different food categories, including grains, milk products and meat. On average, 3.2 food categories out of 10 were consumed by the children aged 5 and under, but the situation varied from country to country. Children in Colombia ate from 4.8 food categories on average, while those in Lesotho ate from just 1.8.
To study whether climate affected the diversity of the children's diets, the researchers linked the results from each country to 30 years of rainfall and temperature data in the surveyed areas. They found that long-term higher temperatures were associated with lower diet diversity for children everywhere except Central America.
There were also shorter-term trends. In North Africa and South America, there was typically a reduction in diet diversity in countries that experienced above-average temperatures the year before the survey. In Central America and West Africa, diets typically became more diverse in countries that experienced above-average rainfall in the previous year. In some countries, the researchers say that the negative effects of climate change on diet diversity was great, and that they may even destroy efforts to improve food security.
Diet diversity is a useful standard for areas with high rates of child malnutrition(营养不良), says Daniel Mason D'Croz, an Australian researcher. "Children need a fruit or a vegetable or animal product besides the rice-that's an important thing for people to know," he says. And he also added that recent follow-up studies have provided more authoritative evidence of the effect of climate change on reducing diet diversity.
32. Why did researchers study the data of rainfall and temperature in the surveyed areas?
A. To learn the diversity of a child's diet from different countries.
B. To confirm the negative effects of climate on food production.
C. To explore the effects of climate on the children's diets diversity.
D. To link the rainfall and temperature data to lower food categories.
33. What does the underlined word "they" in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The researchers. B. Some countries.
C. The negative effects. D. Above-average temperatures.
34. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. Children need fruits or vegetables except the rice.
B. Reducing diet diversity may cause child malnutrition.
C. Higher temperatures will make the diet more diverse.
D. Above-average rainfall leads to reducing diet diversity.
35. What could be the best title for the text?
A. Children's Diet Will Be Influenced by Rainfall
B. Food Security Varies from Country to Country
C. Climate May Affect the Diversity of Children's Diet
D. Scientists Are Making Efforts to Change Children's Diet

Learn how to improve spoken English with our five quick tips.
Repeat the language!
Repeat words and sentences over and over again until you can say them really fluently. 36 The more you say it, the more it becomes fixed in your brain, and then later when you're speaking, it'll come out naturally.
37
First, write out in note form the story you want to tell, and then using those notes, practise telling the story. Now this story could be something that happened to you or from a magazine. Just choose whatever you want, and practise telling it.
Memorize language!
38 You can do this by writing them out, or by speaking them out loud so that you'll be speaking normally. And the more you do this, the more they'll stick in your mind.
Simultaneous(同步的)speaking!
Simultaneous speaking-it sounds difficult but it's quite easy. And it's something as easy as, you take an audio file(音频文件), and you listen along to it, and as you listen to it you read it at the same time. 39 So, you're trying to copy the intonation(语调), the pronunciation, the word stress(重音), and the sentence stress.
Practise forming questions!
Look at a sentence and see if you can change that into a question. 40 So, for example, when seeing the sentence, "She's seen the film," you need to change it into the question, "Has she seen the film?" And the more you do this, the more fluent and quicker you'll get at making questions.
A. Listen to English!
B. Practise telling stories!
C. But you can read your coursebook or a magazine.
D. Try and remember as many phrases and expressions as you can.
E. Making questions is quite difficult if you haven't been practising it.
F. For example, say "I went to the shops, I went to the shops" repeatedly.
G. And as you read it, you try to say it at the same time as the other person speaking.

第二节(满分25分)
If there was one thing Jill could wish for, it was to feel special, because she couldn't remember that she ever had.
Going to school didn't help. Jill was not the top student in her class, like Emma was. While she was certainly not at the bottom of the class, she wished she could be more like Emma. Jill noticed that when report cards were handed out at school Emma's mom was always at the gate waiting for her. After studying Emma's card, her mom would give Emma a big hug. But Jill's report card always said, "could do better" or "could try harder". Her parents said the same when she brought it home, "We are pleased to see that you passed everything, but maybe you can do better next term."
Jill didn't feel special at having lots of friends. Kathy was the one in the class who seemed to do that much better than anyone else and Jill wished she could be more like Kathy. Kathy was always laughing and joking and telling stories. Everyone wanted to be her friend. Jill was not without friends. It was just that she didn't get invited to every birthday party like Kathy did. So when some kids were asked, and she was not, she felt decidedly unhappy.
One afternoon after school, Jill walked past Emma, who was desperately pulling all the contents out of her bag. "What's the matter?" asked Jill. "I lost my math homework sheet," said Emma, "and it's due tomorrow. I don't know what to do." Jill said, "You can come to my home and we can do it together." When they had completed their math assignment, Emma expressed her thanks to Jill. Jill felt a tiny feeling of being special for helping someone she admired. Before leaving, Emma said to Jill, "You know, it's hard always being at the top of the class; your parents and teachers expect so much of you. I often wish I was like you and didn't have all these pressures."
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。
Paragraph 1:
A day or two later Jill came across Kathy crying in the girls' restroom by herself.
