The main aim f the experiment, cnducted n a grup f student vlunteers frm Oxfrd University and University Cllege Lndn, was t test if parts f the brain culd be shcked int getting it t wrk better with numbers.
T test this, 15 students, divided int three grups, were asked t slve the same tw mathematical prblems every day fr a week. The prblems, which invlved identifying the larger f tw numbers and pltting ne n a number line, were made a little mre challenging by replacing the numbers 19 with symbls.
Hwever, befre starting the test, tw f the grups were subjected t a 20minute sessin f a light electric current t the parietal lbe, which the scientists believe is the brain's number cruncher (能迅速运算者). Fr the first grup the current flw was passed right t left, while fr the secnd it was transmitted left t right. The third grup received n help at all.
