This is the 6th perid f this unit in which tw gargets are set. One is t deal with the speaking part and the secnd ne is writing. This part f speaking refers t 2 items. One is Am. English and Br. English. The ther ne is the sentence patterns that express rders and request. First,students will be advised t d reading in rles t find ut the Am. English and Br. English and then find ut the sentence pattern and then reverse them int Direct Speech r Indirect Speech. Writing is a difficult item fr students. This part mainly teaches students a skill called brainstrming. I’ll let students t d sme brainstrming exercise t train them. After they have mastered this skill,I’ll have students write a cmplete passage.

Step 2 Lead-in
Excellent. In this unit “English arund the Wrld”,we learnt sme knwledge f English. We’ve knwn that English is different even in sme English-speaking cuntries. It’s called wrld English. And we’ve learnt sme sentence structures which express rders and requests and the reversal f Indirect Speech and Direct Speech f these patterns. This class,we’ll use these things in practice.
Step 3 Speaking

Sme freigners think that Putnghua and the Dngbei dialect are just the same. Write a passage n the cmparisn f Putnghua and the Dngbei dialect t shw their difference t them using the way—brainstrming.
Sample cmpsitin:
Peple in different parts f China speak different dialects. Putnghua helps them understand each ther. Sme dialects,especially thse that are spken in the suth,are s different frm Putnghua that they sund like a freign language t thers wh d nt speak them. The differences between Putnghua and ther dialects,including the Dngbei dialect,which is spken in the nrtheast f China,are very small.
Written Chinese,including vcabulary and grammar,is almst the same,but there are sme wrds in the Dngbei dialect that are nt used by peple wh speak Putnghua. Fr example,Dngbei peple ften use “旮旯(gala)” t mean “角落(jialu)” in Putnghua,and they als like using “俺们(anmen)” t refer t “我们(wmen)”.
Listening t the Dngbei dialect,it is easy t hear small differences in intnatin and prnunciatin. Fr example,“人(ren)” is ften prnunced as “yin”.Hwever,the differences are s small that peple wh speak Putnghua and peple wh speak the Dngbei dialect can usually understand each ther withut difficulty.
