II. The usages of some important words

My pen friend in the USA has not replied to my last three letters.

reply: 既可用作名词，也可以用作_______，意思是________，与answer同义.

但是answer 用法比较广泛，可指口说或笔写的答复，它是及物动词，可以带宾语。Reply指较正式的，经过考虑后的答复，它是不及物动词，不可以直接跟宾语。只有加上介词“_______“后，才可以跟宾语。如：

“reply to (sb. /sth. )”表示“对……作出回答”。

务必尽快答复我。
