Turkmenistan and Cambdia were mre likely t be in the first grup. They wuld hide their feelings f insecurity if they were arund ther peple's laughter. But peple in Iraq, Egypt and Jrdan were mre likely t try t avid such situatins if they felt they had been laughed at befre. They wanted t understand the difference between nrmal shyness and true geltphbia. Anther purpse f the study was t cmpare the levels f fear f being laughed at in different cultures...

3.The underlined wrd “it” in Paragraph 3 refers t ________.
A.laughter B.geltphbia
C.fear D.Phbia
This fear f laughter can be truly sad fr thse wh live with it.“这种对笑声的恐惧对于那些生活在其中的人来说是非常糟糕的”,可知“It can affect hw they lead their lives”中的it指的是上句所说的this fear f laughter,也就是“geltphbia”。

A grup f scientists are gathering tday in the UK t discuss a thick piece f ice that's cracking in Antarctica, which is f the size f Delaware.
The ice shelf is called Larsen C, and it nw has a 90mile crack running thrugh it. The big rift (裂缝) is slicing the ice shelf frm tp t bttm. But this is nt just anther sad climate change stry. It's mre cmplicated. “A lt f things are ging n deep inside the ice,” says Adrian Luckman, a glacilgist.
Luckman says climate change is certainly influencing this regin. Larsen C used t have tw neighbrs t the nrth, Larsen A and Larsen B. As the air and water warmed, thse ice shelves started melting, and then Larsen A disappeared in 1995 and Larsen B in 2002. But the crack in Larsen C seems t have happened n its wn, fr different reasns.
Larsen C has many cracks. All ice shelves d. This particular crack has been arund since at least the 1960s. The unusual part is that in 2016, this crack—and nly this crack—started grwing quickly. Why?
“Well, that is a little bit f a mystery and that's why it drew ur attentin t itself,” says Luckman. One puzzling aspect is hw it managed t cut thrugh areas f sfter ice that bind (结合) the ice frm neighbring glaciers int ne giant sheet. Starting in 2014, that sft ice did very little t slw dwn this rift.
Scientists are split n hw imprtant this crack is fr the stability f the whle ice shelf. Sme say if this giant sectin breaks ff, it wn't make a difference. Others disagree.
“Ice shelves are the gates f Antarctica in a way, and the gatekeepers f Antarctica. The ice shelves are already flating, s if they fall apart it des nt immediately affect sea level. It's what they hld back—water frm all the inland glaciers—that culd be prblematic. If all the water packed in thse glaciers made their way t the sea, it culd significantly raise glbal sea level,” says Ala Khazendar, a gephysicist.

C.Because ne f its cracks is grwing rapidly.
D.Because it is getting bigger and bigger quickly.
答案:C

6.Which ne is true f sft ice?
A.It is easy t cut thrugh.
B.Its frming is still a mystery.
C.It can prevent cracking t a degree.
D.It exists mainly in small pieces f ice.

根据第五段中的“areas f sfter ice that bind (结合) the ice frm neighbring glaciers int ne giant dwn this rift”可知,“sft ice”在某种程度上可以阻止裂缝。
7.Hw des Ala Khazendar feel abut the influence f the crack?
A.He is very curius. B.He is uncncerned.
C.He is pretty ptimistic. D.He is cautiusly wrried.
根据最后一段中Ala Khazendar所说的“that culd be prblematic. If all the water packed in thse glaciers made their way t the sea, it culd significantly raise glbal sea level”及语境可知,他担心裂缝的影响,故选D项。

2.E 解析:本段的小标题是Label the vice.(给声音贴标签),且根据上文的“give it a name”以及“Call it yur unreliable speaker”可知,我们可以通过将内心的负面想法当作另外的人在说话,以此来转移自己的关注点。
3.C 解析:本空为该段的小标题;根据本段内容尤其是“a slw breathing in and a slwer breathing ut will help cmfrt the central nervus system”(缓慢的吸气和更缓慢的呼气将有助于放松中枢神经系统)可知,C项“放慢你的呼吸来平静你的中枢神经系统”符合本段的主题,故选C。
Trust that the thught will pass.(相信这个想法将会过去),并结合空前的“it's irratinal (不合逻辑的) after all”(毕竟这是不合逻辑的)可知,A项“不要浪费精力去对抗它”符合语境。故选A。
