Kmd dragns were first encuntered by Western researchers in 1910. The researchers said the ancestr f the Kmd dragn mst likely evlved in Australia and spread westward, reaching the Indnesian island f Flres 900,000 years ag.
The Kmd dragn is the largest lizard in the wrld. It can grw t three metres in length and can weigh abut 135 kilgrams. Despite its size and weight, it can run fr shrt distances at up t 20 kilmetres per hur.
The first scientists t examine a preserved platypus bdy judged it a fake in the late 18th century.The ldest discvered fssil f the mdern platypus dates back t abut 100,000 years ag.
Duck-billed platypus
The duck-billed platypus is a small egg-laying mammal (up t 60 cm in length) fund nly in Eastern Australia including Tasmania. As its name suggests, it has a muth that lks like a duck’s bill, while its thick fur and flat tail are similar t thse f a beaver.
Fssil recrds indicate that the nautilus has survived relatively unchanged fr arund 500 millin years. It is ften cnsidered a “living fssil”.
