The first animal Tracey Parsns rescued was a baby bird she fund jumping in and ut f the rad. It had lst its mther. Parsns was seven. She kept it in her bedrm, where it flew arund the rm. She went t the library t learn hw t feed it. The bird started fllwing her arund. In the mrning it wuld fly up t her bed and sing beautiful sngs. "I'll never frget it," she says.
Parsns, wh is nw 35 and runs a clthes shp in Blackheath, Lndn, desn't knw hw many animals she's saved since then. Thusands, she estimates. "I like animals," she says, "because they're pure and reflect the beauty f nature. And they dn't have their wn vices, s smene has t be their vice."
Any time an injured bird r animal is fund in the area, dds are it will find its way t Parsns' hme. Peple bring them t her frnt dr all the time. Arund Blackheath, peple knw Parsns as "the bird lady". The lcal farmers' market dnates scraps (剩饭) fr her t feed the ducklings.

Abut 400 punds f fd is wasted per day frm 5-8 pm in Duglass Dining Hall in Rchester alne. Cllege student Allisn Rll and a few thers wh d the scraping reprt data n hw much waste is generated in Duglass Dining Hall during the dinner hurs.
"We hand scrape the fd frm the cnveyr belt int the buckets (桶), and I'm nt ging t lie, I did nt expect t basically becme a garbage girl," Rll said. "We d the wrk because we care abut it a lt. I feel that n ne is exempt frm (免除) taking respnsibility fr caring fr the envirnment."
With the gal f creating mre apprachable cmpsting (堆肥) systems n campus, Rll nw has a new sustainable prject. Thrugh a special fund, Rll was able t invest in Lmi, an autmated cmpsting system that will reside n campus.
Lmi is a new technlgy that can break dwn fd waste int natural cmpst. Lmi is basically an autmatic versin f the natural decmpsitin (分解) prcess. It takes it and autmates it. Unlike mst cmpsting systems, Lmi can cmpst animal prducts, such as small bnes. It can turn waste int cmpst in as little as fur hurs.
She hpes that this system will inspire ther cmpsting systems in all residential halls. "I want Lmi nt nly t be a way t reduce fd waste n the flr, but t be an educatinal tl t intrduce peple t cmpsting in a real way and nt just talking abut it in a theretical sense," Rll said.
