Seagrass meadws(海草床)are wnder plants grwing beneath the sea. They feed and shelter sea life and are masterful at string carbn.
Seagrass has usually been detected by Earth-rbiting satellites that identify darker patches in the blue water. In this study, tiger sharks were selected
as research tls due t their highly cnsistent assciatins with seagrass ecsystems. They spend 70% f their time in seagrass meadws. The team
equipped eight tiger sharks with satellite tags and used a 360-degree camera n them fr the first time ever.
The data researchers cllected was astnishing. The wrld’s largest seagrass ecsystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilmeters, has been
discvered. This reflects a 41% increase frm previus estimates f glbal seagrass. Seagrass can capture(捕获)huge quantities f carbn by
phtsynthesis and stres it n the seaflr. In terms f climate change, this is excellent news; seagrass is 35 times faster at remving carbn than
trpical rainfrests. When referred t glbal seagrass carbn stck estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may cntain 19.2% t
26.3% f all the carbn stred in seagrass meadws n Earth.
Yet seagrass meadws are rapidly disappearing, with ver 92% f meadws in the UK gne, accrding t the Wrld Wildlife Fund. Scientists are
cllecting seeds and trying t grw new seagrass meadws thrugh restratin prjects.
The sharks led us t the seagrass ecsystem in the Bahamas, which we nw knw is likely the mst significant blue carbn sink n the planet. What
this discvery shws us is that cean explratin and research are essential fr a healthy future. The untapped ptential f the cean is limitless, ffering

A slar tree is a structure like a tree that generates slar energy using phtvltaic panels (太阳能光伏板). It helps slve an urgent glbal challenge:
Replacing greenhuse gas-emitting energy surces like il and gas with renewable energy. But the pwer generatin ptential f slar trees is relatively
limited, and their primary purpse is t raise public awareness abut renewable energy by getting peple t ntice and interact with slar energy in new
    ways.
Slar trees generally have a firm metal, plastic, r stne base that extends up and ut int “branches” n which slar panels are munted. Beynd
this basic structure, there is great diversity in the design f slar tree units. The slar tree’s phtvltaic “leaves” absrb sunlight, cnverting it int
electricity that is cnducted dwn thrugh the trunk-like central pillar f the structure t an inside battery. Many designs feature rtating (旋转的) panels
that can mve thrughut the day in rder t btain the greatest amunt f sunlight.
Slar trees help pwer hmes, businesses, and public services. They can create shade t help reduce the urban heat island effect and prvide shelter
in severe weather such as rainstrms and heatwaves, creating greater urban adapting ability in the face f climate change. They als enhance public
spaces, prviding charging statins, and pwering streetlights.
In cmparisn t ther kinds f grund-munted slar panel devices, slar trees dn’t require much land. They make slar energy generatin
pssible in areas with little land that can’t supprt vast slar arrays, as well as places that lack sufficient rftp space fr panels. Hwever, slar panels
are much cheaper than slar trees at present and have far greater energy generatin capacity. Therefre, present slar tree designs ften serve as a extra
surce rather than as a primary energy surce.
At present, slar trees aren’t designed as large-scale slar prjects, which limits their ability t cntribute t the lw-carbn energy transitin. Still,
their varied designs are appealing. This makes slar trees effective at displaying and thereby educating peple abut slar energy, and prmting a
    business r rganizatin’s cmmitment t renewable energy.
【小题1】What is the main purpse f building slar trees?
    A.T beautify the urban envirnment.

    C.T replace nn-renewable energy resurces.

D.T prvide charging services in emergencies.
B.It can adjust its height autmatically.
C.It is made f envirnmentally friendly materials.
D.It transfrms sunlight int electricity by its metal base.
【小题3】What des the third paragraph mainly talk abut?
A.The design features f slar trees.
B.The ways f saving energy in cities.
    C.The benefits f slar trees t humans.
D.The difficulties f prmting slar trees.
【小题4】What is the advantage f slar trees ver ther grund-munted slar panel devices?
    A.They ccupy much less land.
    B.They are cheaper t manufacture.
D.They can wrk in varius weather cnditins.
C.They are mre effective in generating energy.
