    In bth Africa and Asia elephants are being threatened by changes in their natural habitats. Peple are mving int the elephants’ habitats and

    Transit Hme (ETH).
    Set up in 1995, the ETH aims t prtect and care fr baby elephants that are fund injured r living withut their mthers in the wild. Every year
    abut 30 baby elephants in Sri Lanka need help. Many are brught t the ETH. There they are given fd, shelter, and medical care. Mst imprtantly,

    A day at the ETH begins early in the mrning when the baby elephants are given their first feeding f milk. During the day, each baby will drink an
    average f 13 gallns f milk. Older elephants are fed mstly ccnut leaves and ther native plants. There are n bundaries in the area fr the baby
    elephants as they have the freedm t walk wherever they want. The cst f caring fr the baby elephants is high. The ETH spends abut $125,000 each
    year n pwdered milk fr the baby elephants.
    At the ETH, wrkers try t reduce human cnnectins with the elephants. They als try t increase bnds (联系) between the elephants. It usually
    takes three years fr a baby elephant t be set free int its natural habitat. The elephants are sent back t the wild tgether with ther rphans with
    whm they have bnded. This prgram helps them return t the wild as members f a herd that will cmmunicate with each ther and take care f each
    ther.
    The ETH is cnsidered as ne f the best animal prtectin sites in the wrld. Nt nly are the elephants cared fr, but they are treated with respect.
