NASA Invites Media t First Astrbtic, ULA Rbtic Artemis Mn Launch
(文章来源:NASA)
Media accreditatin is pen fr the first United States cmmercial rbtic flight t the Mn’s surface as part f NASA’s CLPS (Cmmercial Lunar Paylad Services) initiative and Artemis prgram.
Carrying NASA and cmmercial paylads, Astrbtic will launch its Peregrine lander n United Launch Alliance’s (ULA) Vulcan rcket n earlier than Sunday, Dec. 24, frm Space Launch Cmplex 41 at the Cape Canaveral Space Frce Statin in Flrida. This is the inaugural launch f ULA’s new Vulcan rcket.
Astrbtic’s Peregrine Missin One will land n the Mn in early 2024. The NASA paylads abard the lunar lander aim t help the agency develp capabilities needed t explre the Mn under Artemis ahead f sending astrnauts t the lunar surface.
Media prelaunch and launch activities will take place at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Flrida. Attendance fr this launch is pen t U.S. citizens and internatinal media. U.S. media must apply by Friday, Dec. 8, and internatinal media must apply by Thursday, Nv. 9.
Media interested in participating in persn must apply at:
Credentialed media will receive a cnfirmatin email upn apprval. NASA’s media accreditatin plicy is available nline. Fr questins abut accreditatin r t request special lgistical supprt such as space fr satellite trucks, tents, r electrical cnnectins, please email by Wednesday, Dec. 13, t: ksc-media-accreditat@ Fr ther questins, please cntact NASA Kennedy’s newsrm at: 321-867-2468.

In May 2019, NASA awarded Astrbtic its first CLPS task rder. The cmmercial flight is tracking t becme the first launch f the eight delivery rders the agency has awarded t date. NASA is wrking with multiple vendrs t establish a regular cadence f paylad lunar deliveries t perfrm experiments, test technlgies, and demnstrate capabilities. Rbtically explring the lunar surface thrugh CLPS will help NASA cllect relevant science data, ultimately advancing ur lunar knwledge ahead f Artemis missins with crew n and arund the Mn.

(2023·银川期中)In 1997, a grup f twenty British wmen made histry. Wrking in five teams with fur wmen in each team, they walked t the Nrth Ple. Apart frm ne experienced female guide, the ther wmen were all rdinary peple wh had never dne anything like this in their lives befre. They managed t survive in an envirnment which had defeated several very experienced men during the same perid.
Once n the ice, each wman had t ski alng while dragging a sledge (雪橇) weighing ver 50 kils. This wuld nt have been t bad n a smth surface, but fr lng stretches (一片地域), the Arctic ice is pushed up int huge piles tw r three meters high and the sledges had t be pulled up n side and carefully let dwn the ther s that they didn’t crash. The temperature was always belw freezing pint and smetimes strng winds made walking while pulling s much weight almst impssible. It was als very difficult t put up their tents when they stpped each night.
In such cnditins the wmen were making gd prgress if they cvered furteen r fifteen kilmeters a day. But there was anther prblem. Part f the jurney was acrss a frzen sea with mving water underneath the ice and at sme pints the team wuld drift (漂流) back mre than five kilmeters during the night. That meant that after walking in these very terrible cnditins fr ten hurs n ne day, they had t spend part f the next day cvering the same grund again. Furthermre, each day it wuld take three hurs frm waking up t setting ff and anther three hurs every evening t set up the camp and prepare the evening meal.
S, hw did they manage t succeed? They realized that they were part f a team. If any ne f them didn’t pull her sledge r get her jb dne, she wuld endanger the success f the whle expeditin (远征探险). Any frm f selfishness culd result in the effrts f everyne else being cmpletely wasted, s persnal feelings had t be put t ne side. At the end f their jurney, the wmen agreed that it was mental effrt far mre than physical fitness that gt them t the Nrth Ple.
1.What was s extrardinary abut the expeditin?
A.It was a new experience fr mst f the wmen.
B.The wmen did nt have any men with them.
C.The wmen had nt met ne anther befre.
D.There was n ne leading it.
2.During the expeditin, the wmen had t be careful t avid________.
A.being left behind B.damaging the sledges
C.falling ver n the iceD.breaking the ice
3.It was difficult fr the wmen t cver 15 kilmeters a day because________.
A.they gt t tired
B.they kept getting lst
C.the ice was mving backwards
D.the temperatures were very lw
4.What can we infer frm the text?
A.Experience must be bught.
B.Facts speak luder than wrds.
C.He wh risks nthing gains nthing.
D.Mtivatin and teamwrk achieve gals.

(2023·沧州联考)Magnetic fields are prmising t be a useful tl in the hunt fr human settlements that have been lst t the sea ff the cast f the UK. An upcming prject is set t use magnetmetry (磁力测定) data t seek Dggerland, the flded land that cnnected Britain t mainland Eurpe until the end f the Ice Age, but there’s hpe that this technique culd be used t find lng-lst civilizatins all ver the wrld.
The study cmes frm the University f Bradfrd in the UK. Their plan is t clsely lk at magnetmetry data gathered frm a prtin f the Nrth Sea and attempt t identify any strange anmalies (异常) that culd suggest the presence f archaelgical structures.
The team is especially keen t use these techniques t lk fr traces f human activities beneath the Nrth Sea since it’s thught t have been hme t sme f the largest prehistric settlements in Eurpe. Befre it was flded ver 8,000 years ag. Dggerland was a rich and diverse habitat that likely attracted prehistric humans and thers. Despite its ptential that lays beneath the Nrth Sea, we knw relatively little abut the culture that nce was develped here.
“As the area we are studying used t be abve sea level, there’s a small chance this analysis culd even reveal evidence fr hunter-gatherer activity. That wuld be the mst imprtant part.” Ben Urmstn, PhD student at the University f Bradfrd, said in a statement. “We might als discver the presence f middens, which are rubbish dumps that cnsist f animal bnes, shells and ther bilgical material. that can tell us a lt abut hw peple lived.”
Remarkably little f the wrld’s ceans have been explred, let alne fr the purpses f archaelgy. Nevertheless, advances in technlgy are cntinuing t shw that the castlines are hiding cuntless traces f ancient human activities, even evidence f lng-lst civilizatins.
Thanks t prjects like the ne at the University f Bradfrd, as well as many thers, the future f marine archaelgy is lking prmising. Nevertheless, we have t be patient. Just dn’t expect t stumble acrss the sunken city f Atlantis anytime sn.
5.Why is magnetmetry data used in this prject?
A.T trace the ice mvement.B.T measure Dggerland.
C.T find a lst ancient land.D.T explre the histry f Britain.
6.What d we knw abut Dggerland ver 8,000 years ag?
A.Its civilizatin is little knwn t us.B.It was a place that was ften flded.
C.It was a deserted island with few peple.D.Its lcatin has nt yet been cnfirmed.
7.What is Ben Urmstn’s attitude tward this analysis?
A.Uncaring.B.Subjective.C.Shcked.D.Favurable.
8.What d the underlined wrds ”stumble acrss“in the last paragraph mean?
A.Display.B.Assess.C.Restre.D.Discver.
