Cming int the freshman year at Paul Cllege, Sansa was cncerned abut her ability as an individual t make a difference t such a large cmmunity, fr it was never hard fr her t stand ut frm peers （同龄人） in high schl. Luckily, each first-year student in Paul Cllege takes part in what is called the First-year Innvatin and Research Experience, cmmnly referred t as the FIRE Prgram, an extracurricular prject held by the rganizatin. She was able t develp valuable cnnectins with her fellw students and their peer advisr wh had s much first-hand experience with what they all were ging thrugh.
The biggest highlight （亮点） f her freshman year was wrking alngside her FIRE team n a Grand Challenge Prject, in which every FIRE team cmpeted against ne anther in the Undergraduate Research Meeting. Each team had t create a unique prduct that slved ne f the five fllwing real-wrld prblems: “Water is Life”, “Fd”, “Threats frm Cyberspace”, “Medical Breakthrughs”, and “Addictive Sciety”. Her team dealt with the grwing issue f “Addictive Sciety”. Ding research, cllecting facts and rganizing discussins r even debates were a huge amunt f wrk befre they went t cmpete against ther teams.
After weeks f tireless preparatin, their cllective effrts paid ff at the Undergraduate Research Meeting. They earned a place in the final rund f the meeting, where they cmpeted against the tp team frm each f the ther Grand Challenge grups. They were s vercme with pride when they were finally annunced as the verall first-place team at the cllege!
If it hadn't been fr her grup's determinatin, excellent teamwrk and their respectable peer advisr Hayley, they wuld nt have been able t achieve everything they did. This experience wuld be helpful in her future.
