    Explring the rules
    1. Read the passage again and find the ther sentences that use mdal verbs, identifying their functins respectively. And then fill in the table n Page 48.
    Mdal verbs can express ability r necessity. They can als make suggestins r describe the prbability f an event. The same mdal verb can have different functins. Mdal verbs can be fllwed by __________. * Yu can chse mre than ne answer fr the blank. a. d (the base frm) d. be dne (the passive vice) b. ding (the verb-ing frm) e. be ding (the cntinuus frm) c. did (the past frm) f. have dne (the perfect frm)

    “Culd” can be used as the past tense f “can” t say what smene was able t d r was allwed t d in the past.When talking abut what happened in a particular situatin, we use “was/were able t” r “managed t” instead f “culd”.

    We use “must” when saying that it is very imprtant that smene des smething, because smene in authrity r a rule says this, r because f the situatin.We use “have t” when we need t d smething because it is necessary r imprtant.

    Mdal verbs fr prbability: may, might, culd, must, can, shuld
    may/might/culd
    We use “ may, might and culd” t say that smething is pssible, but nt certain.We use “must” t shw we are sure smething is true.We use “can’t r cannt” t say that smething is impssible.
