She cnnected them in rws, and by the end she designed the item int a skirt and wre it.
She said that the idea behind her unique clthing item came ut f a desire t nrmalize rejectin and take pride in vercming it. “The whle prcess f revisiting thse ld letters and making that skirt srt f reminded me that yu have t apply t a lt f things t succeed,” she said. “A natural part f the prcess is t get rejected alng the way.”
Caitlin’s adviser, Julie Libarkin, a prfessr f earth and envirnmental science at Michigan State University, als encurages the acceptance f failure in her students. Libarkin believes it’s imprtant fr students t get int habit f applying fr things, and t get used t the feeling f rejectin, s she encurages them t chase after any pprtunity that cmes their way. If a student desn’t get the grant r the spt in the academic jurnal, that’s kay. They’ll still have learned smething in the prcess.

It's gd t share, right? Grwing up as kids we are tld t share ur tys and nt be selfish. We als live in an age where discussing ur feelings is encuraged. But when des it all becme t much? With new fashin trending all the time, such as dance challenges and wearing a pillw as a dress, the questin is: when can sharing becme versharing n scial media?
What is versharing? The term has becme assciated with scial media, but it desn't nly belng t this platfrm. Imagine yu head t a party and yu meet smene. Within five minutes they have given away details abut their persnal life. While sme f us may try t escape these peple, accrding t marriage therapist Carlyn Cle, this frm f versharing culd cme frm a strng desire t cnnect with smene. But hw des this translate t scial media?
Dr. Christpher Hand, a lecturer in internet psychlgy, says the mre details peple disclse, the less sympathy we express when things g wrng. This culd be due t a belief that we attract ur wn negative experiences the mre we share them. It seems that the idea f searching fr sympathy by versharing, is generally viewed as negative rather than the cry fr help it culd actually be.
Hwever, Dr Hand's research als seems t suggest that the mre psitive psts we share n a platfrm, the mre scially attractive we becme. Even back in 2015, Gwendlyn Seidman PhD, said that we shuld avid cmplaining and being negative nline. We are suppsed nt t shw ff, as it's nw knwn—especially abut ur lve lives. It makes sense—if yur date is ging 'that well', wuld yu really have time t share a pht with text?
S, hw can yu knw if yu are versharing? Well, why nt ask yur friends in real life. They wuld prbably be mre than happy t tell yu if yur psts abut yur breakfast r yur cmplaint abut yur lack f mney really are t much.
8.Why d sme peple try t vershare at parties?
A.Because they want t catch thers' attentin.

Psychlgical science is full f interesting tpics, many f which tell a cherent picture f human nature, but sme f which create seemingly cntradictry stries. A case in pint is the tricky, and misunderstd, verlap between strength-based science and the research n narcissism (自恋).
There is nw cnvincing evidence t shw that narcissism is n the rise, especially in ur yuth. Sme researchers have gne s far as t say that it is ccurring in epidemic prprtins, with abut 25% f yung peple shwing symptms f narcissism. The inflated eg f Generatin Me is reflected in reality TV, celebrity wrship, ut-f-cntrl cnsumerism and materialism…perhaps even a new type f president.
We are crrect t be cncerned abut this phenmenn but ur fear that all kids are ptential narcissists has caused an unhelpful cunter-reactin t appraches that seek t make ur children and teens feel gd abut themselves.
In my wn research n strength-based parenting it is cmmn fr peple t wrngly label this apprach as a recipe fr narcissism. Their argument seems t be that a child wh knws their strengths will autmatically view themselves as better than everyne else. It is argued that the self-assurance that cmes with identifying and using their psitive qualities will make a child arrgant, selfish and uncaring. Genuine cnfidence abut ne's strengths is categrized as ver-cnfidence; desirable self-knwledge is branded as excessive self-admiratin.
Why des this ccur? It's partly because mre is knwn abut narcissism than strengths. While strengths psychlgy has largely stayed within the limit f academic jurnals r has been applied nly within certain cntexts such as the wrkplace, research n narcissism has made its way int the mass media and int ur cllective cnsciusness. The New Yrk Times nted that narcissism is a favred "g-t" tpic and that peple everywhere are diagnsing thers with it.
The fear that a strength-based apprach will cause narcissism als ccurs because we unknwingly fall prey t binary (非此即彼) thinking. We mistakenly believe that ne cannt be bth cnfident and humble. We fcus n Dnald Trump and Kim Kardashian rather than Mahatma Gandhi and Mther Teresa. There's n way that Gandhi and Mther Teresa culd have achieved what they did withut cnfidence in their strengths, and yet they are bth pillars f mdesty and selflessness.
When we assume that strength-fcus is the same as a self-fcus, We fail t entertain the idea that peple wh knw their strengths are, actually, mre likely t be pr-scial and fcus n helping thers.
It's tempting t cnclude that every yung persn is at risk f becming a narcissist but I'd like t stand up fr the thusands f yung kids I have wrked with wh are caring, thughtful and humble — even when they use their strengths.
12.Why teenagers' strengths are ften mistaken fr narcissism?
A.Strengths psychlgy is less accessible t the general public.
B.Academic jurnals and mass media reprt mre n narcissism.
C.There is a lack f strengths in ur cllective cnsciusness.
D.Numbers f peple are diagnsed with narcissism by dctrs.
13.The authr mentins Gandhi and Teresa in paragraph 6 t shw that________.
A.they are bth victims f binary thinking
B.ne can be bth mdest and sure f himself
C.cnfidence is quite imprtant fr celebrities
D.public figures unknwingly fall prey t narcissism
14.What's the authr's attitude twards yung kids' strength-based appraches?
A.Skeptical.
B.Favrable.
C.Neutral.
D.Cautius.
15.Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
A.Teens' Strength Psychlgy
B.Teens' Narcissism Diagnsis
C.Teen's Anxiety and Depressin
D.Teens' Cnfidence Misunderstd
