Mre than 25 years ag, Sar Brierley was ne f many pr children in rural India. One day, he played with his brther alng the rail line and fell asleep. When he wke up, finding himself alne, the 4-year-ld decided his brther might be n the train he saw in frnt f him—s he gt n.
That train tk him acrss the cuntry t a ttally strange city, where he did nt speak the language. He lived n the streets, and then in an rphanage(孤儿院). There, he was adpted by an Australian family and flwn t Tasmania.
As he writes in his new bk, A Lng Way Hme, Brierley culdn’t help but wnder abut his hmetwn back in India. He remembered landmarks, but since he didn’t knw his twn’s name, finding a small neighbrhd in a vast cuntry seemed t be impssible.
Then he fund Ggle Earth—a digital mapping prgram. He spent years searching fr his hmetwn in the prgram’s satellite pictures. In 2011, he came acrss smething familiar. He studied it and realized he was lking at a twn’s central business district frm a bird’s-eye view. He thught, “On the right-band side yu shuld see the three-platfrm train statin”—and there it was. “And n the left-hand side yu shuld see a big funtain”—and there it was.
    Everything just started t match.
When he std in frnt f the huse where he grew up as a child, he saw a lady standing in the entrance. “There’s smething abut me,” he thught—and it tk him a few secnds, but he finally remembered what she used t lk like.
“My mther lked s much shrter than I remembered. But she came frth and walked frward, and I walked frward, and my feelings and tears and the chemical in my brain, yu knw, it was like a nuclear fusin(核聚变). I just didn’t knw what t say, because I never thught seeing my mther wuld ever cme true. And here I am, standing in frnt f her.”

Many animals climb, but few d it as well as the spider. Nw researchers have turned upsurprising clued as t hw spiders can stick t almst any surface. The structure f tiny hairs at the tip f the spider's legs likely help the creature hang n.
Clemens Schaber is a zlgist at the University f Kiel in Germany. He led the new study, which was published n June 11 in Frntiers in Mechanical Engineering. The finding was part f his research n hw spiders mve. Adhesin, r stickiness, “is an imprtant part f that,” he says.
Spiders dn't have a sticky liquid n their feet. Instead, they use “dry” adhesin. Animals that use dry adhesin can stick and unstuck t surfaced easily. Scientists have lng studied the hairs n a spider's feet t understand hw they d it.
Befre this latest research, Schaber knew the hairs were imprtant fr adhesin. He wanted t knw mre abut why they wrked s well. He and his clleague chse t study this in Cupiennius salei spiders living in Suth and Central America.
The scientists first tried t pull tufts f hair ff the spider legs. But the entire leg ften came ff instead. This is a natural defense that the spiders use t escape predatrs(捕食者). The researchers then used a pwerful micrscpe t view the hairs clser. Schaber expected that all the hairs wuld pint in the same directin, mre r less. “But it wasn't like that,” he says. Instead, they saw hairs pinting all ver the place. “The ends f the hairs were all a little bit different in directin,” Schaber says.
The researchers then tested the stickiness f the hairs n different materials, including glass. They fund that sme hairs had the strngest adhesin at ne angle. Others wrked best at ther angles. This mix f angled and adhesins may help the spider stick n matter hw it tuches a wall.
8.What des the authr intend t d in Paragraph 2?
A.Summarize the previus paragraph.B.Prvide sme advice fr the readers.
C.Add sme backgrund infrmatin.D.Intrduce a new tpic fr discussin.

A.What results frm the stickiness f spiders' hairs.
B.Which hair angle hlds the strngest stickiness.
C.Hw the researchers cnduct the spider test.
D.Why spiders can stick t almst any material.

Cmpared t metal, ceramics (陶瓷) can better resist high temperatures and certain severe envirnments, but they are fragile. This ptentially causes prblems fr innvatrs trying t create lightweight versins f these materials, explaining why ceramic materials are nt typically used as structural cmpnents.
Facing the challenging task f develping lightweight, high-strength ceramic materials, Mechanical Engineering Assistant Prfessr Ling Li has turned t the knbby sea star frm the trpical Ind-Pacific fr design inspiratin.
Sea star skeletns (骨骼) are made f an easily brken material. Hwever, the bdy f the sea star demnstrates high strength and flexibility. Uncvering the principles f this structure may help slve the challenges f making strnger ceramics.
What the team fund was unexpected. The skeletn f the knbby star cnsists f many millimeter-sized skeletal elements. Li and his team discvered that each is cnstructed f a micrlattice (微晶) structure s unifrm that it can be described mathematically. Even mre interesting, the team fund the unifrm structure f the micrlattice is essentially a single crystal structure at atmic level.
Based n the finding, Li and his cllabratrs used 3D printing t mdel and generate large-scale versins f these cmplex lattice structures, a useful apprach in understanding the cmplexity f these unique gemetries. While the 3D-printed mdels created by Li's team were indeed visually inspiring, the technlgy needed t bring new, strnger ceramic micr-architectures t market still lay in the future. Currently, 3D printers prduce structures at the micrmeter level, but printing ceramics still requires firing the final prduct, which pssibly intrduces many uncntrlled tiny hles and cracks. These make the structures extremely fragile.
Li hpes that cntinued advances in the field f 3D printing and further understanding f the frmatin mechanisms f bilgical structures like sea star skeletns eventually ffer a slutin.
12.What des Li's team mainly fcus n t imprve ceramics?
    A.Their strength.B.Their flexibility.
    C.Their heat-resistance.D.Their main cmpnent.
13.In which aspect d the researchers explre sea star skeletns?
    A.Functin.B.Material.C.Structure.D.Size.
14.What is a barrier t the practical applicatin f the finding?
A.The inability t print tiny structures.
B.The failure t prduce a larger sea star mdel.
    C.Inadequate technlgy in heating prducts.
D.Misunderstanding in the nature f ceramics.
15.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A.The Secret in Fragile Skeletns
B.3D Printing fr Sea Star Mdels
    C.Ceramics as Perfect Structural Cmpnents
D.A Star in the Wrld f Ceramic Engineering
