This photo taken on Feb 19, 2023 shows giant panda Xiang Xiang at Ueno Zoological Gardens in Tokyo, Japan. People flocked to Tokyo's Ueno Zoological Garlens to see Xiang Xiang on Sunday, the final day for public viewing for the beloved five-year-old female giant panda before her return to China.
Giant pandas are among the most lovable animals alive today. Unlike their relatives, such as the polar bear, pandas don't eat meat but survive on a diet of only bamboo. So why and how have pandas abandoned their taste for meat to pick up a vegetarian diet?
Pandas today don't eat meal. However, they've kept much of their meat-eating adaptations from times past. Their digestive systems have not changed much from their meat-eating days. Out of the huge 12.5kg of bamboo they eat in a single day, only about 17% of it is digested. To survive, panda seat large amounts of bamboo while having a low-metabolic(新陈代谢的), lazy lifestyle to make up for the poor energy return.
The giant panda's shift to a vegetarian diet is in line with the inactivation of a specific gene-Taslrl, which provides them with the ability to taste certain amino acids(氨基酸)abundant in meat. Its inactivation in pandas would lead to their dietary change.
Pandas have evolved(进化)to a great degree to cope with their relatively recent bamboo-eating lifestyle. Pandas must seize long and thin pieces of bamboo shoots. To help with this, they have developed a long “fake-thumb”(伪拇指). So giant pandas have six fingers in each paw which provides better support for them to seize objects such as bamboo in one paw quickly. Researchers have found that the surface of the panda's tongue is different. While other bears and many meal-eating animals have smooth tongues, pandas have evolved tiny projections on the surface of their tongue is that serve to file down food. This is especially useful for pandas as they remove the outer cover of bamboo.
Time will tell if pandas will adapt and survive, go back to eating meat, or disappear in the wild. Whatever the future holds, we can be grateful that, for the time being, we get to share our planet with these adorable animals.
28. Why are the data mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To state the variety of food.
B. To represent the evolutionary rule of pandas.
C. To show the ineffectiveness of digestive system.
D. To describe the changes of living environment.
29. What caused pandas' change in diet?
A. The low-metabolic lifestyle. B. The amino acids in meat.
C. The surface of the panda's longue. D. The Taslrl gene's inactivation.
30. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Developing more fingers. B. Seizing bamboo shoots.
C. The low energy return. D. The vegetarian diet.
31. Which aspect of pandas does paragraph 5 focus on?
A. The evolutionary feature in eating. B. The preference for bamboo.
C. The unique lifestyle. D. The special appearance.

As we all know, all work and no ply makes Jack a dull boy. Now scientists have given us another warning: spending too much tie on smartphones or computers makes you dull too.
“Many focus on the benefits of digital devices(设备)in education but ignore the costs,” said Patricia Greenfield from the University of California, “losing the ability to understand the emotions of other people is one of the costs.” Greenfield and her research team did an experiment. They worked with 105 children who spent about 4.5 hours in front of screens on a school day. The students were asked to describe the emotions towards the pictures of people who were happy, sad, angry or seared. Then, half of them attended a five-day nature and science camp. There they had no smart phones, TV, or computers. The other half stayed in school and spent the five days as usual. Five days later, all the children took the test again.
Students who had been lo the camp got about 5 percent more answers correct than they had done before the camp. But the other group of students didn't show much improvement. The study is not perfect in some ways, said the researchers. But scientists say that the study is still a warning for us.
“Emotional skills develop in practice and the brain develops through real interaction.” said Professor Taylor, a professor at the University of San Francisco.
Researchers talked to 2, 000 parents of children aged 2-16 in the UK about what activities their children could do confidently. The results were surprising: Their children could use a tablet(平板电脑)(59%)and work a mobile phone(57%) more confidently than they could tie their shoelaces(鞋带)(53%)! So,spend more time away from mobile phones and computers if you want to be an understanding friend, and not a member of what the Daily Mail called “Generation Helpless”.
32. According to Professor Green field, what is the consequence of using digital media in education?
A. Students don't get along well with family members.
B. Students always make more mistakes when taking exams.
C. Students can't catchup with others in schoolwork.
D. Students fail to know other people's emotions.
33. What do scientists think of the results of Greenfield's experiment?
A. They are far from useful.
B. They are alarming for people.
C. They are quite surprising.
D. They need to be improved.
34. What can we learn from the text?
A. Students lea med how to describe emotions in the experiment.
B. Most of the UK children couldn't tie their shoelaces.
C. Students living without screens di much better in studies.
D. Over using digital devices raised some worries.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Stay away from the Internet
B. Here comes a digital world
C. Screens are harmful to emotions

Many people may feel puzzled when viewing art, for it is generally thought to be too abstract and professional. However, it doesn't mean you can't view art if you're not an art expert. 36
Spend time on art. If you only take a moment to consider a work of art, you'll only generate a moment's opinion. 37 Art lets you put life on pause. That’s one of its greatest aspects. Even if it’s just for a few moments, stop worrying about what you need to do next or where you need to be and really dive into the artwork.
Determine the basics. When you’re first encountering an artwork, identify the basic information about it. 38 When possible, identify the artist, when they created it, and whether it is a still life or a landscape. These simple observations can help you gain a better understanding of the artwork.
Recognize your feelings. Recognize your feelings as you first view the art. 39 Is it natural and unintentional? How does it affect your feelings? This subjective (主观的) response is a more immediate reaction, but it is worth regarding, because art is about the artist communicating and expressing ideas.
40 Art is subjective, so finding what you like and don’t like about art is a key factor to better understanding it. If you don’t like a certain style, don’t worry—there is something out there for everyone, from Abstract Expressionism to Photorealism.
A. Do some homework.
B. Find your likes and dislikes.
C. Is the artwork forceful and dramatic?
D. Is there a right or a wrong way on how to view art?
E. IF it's a painting, see if you can figure out the type of paint used.
F. The most enriching and fascinating artwork requires plenty of time to fully appreciate.
G. Try these tips next time you're viewing art and see if you can transform your experience.

It was spring—the sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and the birds were singing their beautiful songs. In a nearby basketball stadium, a basketball championship was going on. Kerr, like his elder brother Timmy, was one of the best in the competition; he scored most of his team's points, but his team did not like that, because Kerr never passed the ball. His coach always told him that it was a team game and not a one-man show. “Kerr, pass the ball more,” insisted Coach Tyler.
“Coach, I am good. I can win this whole tournament by myself if I want to,” responded Kerr.
“Kerr, you need to learn to respect the game!” said Coach Tyler.
“I don't need to respect anything,” said Kerr.
“Okay then, I don't need you in my team, Kerr. Get out of here!” said Coach Tyler.
“Fine!” replied Kerr angrily.
At school Kerr's friends Zack, Christopher, and Aaron were trying to calm down Kerr, who was still angry about what had happened the previous day. Kerr was usually good in school but after he was kicked out of the team, his attitude changed. He started doing poorly; he got in trouble and failed classes. Kerr tried to join other basketball teams, but he could not because their list was filled or he was too young or too old. Finally, Kerr was recommended a team by Zack.
Five months later...
Kerr started passing the ball more, and he still averaged 26.4 points per game. Kerr enjoyed how he played, but he did not like that he was coming off the bench(替补). Kerr proved that he was a star on the court, but still the coach said that he was better coming off the bench. Coach, I think I have shown that I can start the next game,” said Kerr calmly. “No, Kerr, you are not good enough,” responded the coach. “But...”said Kerr before the coach interrupted him. “No, Kerr!” Kerr started getting mad. “Coach, you need to let me start. I’m the best in this team,” said Kerr proudly. “Kerr, how about you just leave?” shouted the coach.
注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
His brother Timmy noticed Kerr came home angry and depressed.

【答案】21.C 22.C 23.A
A. It takes place twice a year.(它每年举行两次)。由第一段最后一句“Write a poem about how the pandemic(疫情)has changed your life.(写一首关于疫情是如何改变了你的生活的诗)”,而选项B. It focuses on the development of poetry(它关注诗歌的发展),两者不是很贴切,故排除选项B。由倒数第二段“Judges are unable to comment on individual entries(评委无法对个人参赛作品发表评论)”可知,评委无法对个别参赛作品发表评论,所以选项D. It gives feedback on each entry.(它对每一个参赛作品给出反馈)被排除。由“Fees: 10 per poem(费用: 每首诗10英镑)”可知,每首诗的参赛费用为10英镑,所以参赛者要支付费用。故选C项。
22.细节理解题。由“IMPORTANT: ☆Only one poem per person in a family is al-lowed.(重要事项: 每个家庭每人只能写一首诗)”可知: 比赛规则规定每户人家每个人只允许写一首诗。所以,“a single-parent family with 2 children(有两个孩子的单亲家庭)”可以提交3首参赛作品。故选C项。
23.细节理解题。根据IMPORTANT部分的“☆Format: Entres must be typed. We do not accept handwritten submissions.(参赛作品用文档模式。不接受手写稿件)”可知,所有参赛作品都要用文档。故选A项。
【答案】24.A 25.C 26.B 27.D
