1.expect及物动词,意为“期待;盼望”。后接名词、代词或动词不定式,不接动名词。也接that从句。若从句谓语为否定,注意否定转移。
如:He is expecting her letter.他在盼望着她的来信。
She expects to go there next week.她期望下周去那儿。
I don’t expect that he has done such a thing. 我预料他不会做出这种事来。
【拓展】expect还有“以为,料想;要求”之意。
如:We expect a hot summer this year. 我们预计今年夏天会很热。
The school expects its students to be on time.学校要求学生们要准时到校。
【辨析】expect与look forward to
①expect确信某事必将发生、某人必将到来而等待着。
如:I am expecting him.我正在等他。
②look forward to是以特别愉快的心情期待着。
如:I am looking forward to seeing him.我期待着见他。
2.more than意为“超过;多于 ”后常接数词。
如:The lady is more than forty.那位女士 40 多岁了。
More than one man was killed.被杀害的不止一人。
3.invent作动词,意为“发明;创造”。
如: Who invented the steam engine? 谁发明了蒸汽机?

4.privateadj.私人的;个人的。反义词为public(公开的)。同义词为personal个人的。
