Step I Warming-up

Free talk—Let’s talk about the great books and writers.

1. T shows Ss a dialogue with some key words missing and then asks them to talk in pairs, using the dialogue in Unit 1 for reference. )

A: Hello, what’s up?

B: I want to join an Internet group to discuss great books by great writers.

A: Who do you think is a great writer?

B: ________________.

A: I accept that he is great because ____________. He was _____________. And _____________ is my favorite.

B: Who’s your favorite character in this book?

2. T shows the pictures of Mark Twain and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and talk about them.

Ss fill in the blanks and then retell the passage according to the mind-map.

Language Points

1. Tom escapes from a cave with another friend, Becky. 汤姆和另一个朋友贝姬从山洞里逃了出来。

escape from ...      从……逃跑，逃脱

2. Everyone is surprised to see them at first, but very pleased to find that they are alive. 刚开始，

大家看见他们还感到有些惊讶，但是发现他俩还活着，大家都很开心。

1. Ss complete the passage with the correct form of the words in the box.

2. Ss check the answers with their partners.

设计意图：通过阅读使学生抓住文章要点，理解文章内容，并通过多种练习训练学生快速抓住主要信息的能力。同时使学生对文中的重点词汇有所了解。
