一、教学目标
1. 掌握本课重点词汇和短语:high jump, ability, race, record, method, Japan, break, Asian, suffer, courage, pride, suffer from, first place, stop sb. (from) doing sth., take pride in
2. 正确运用以下句型:
First, he was invited to competitions around the world.
Liu was encouraged at first to train for the high jump.
In 2001, a special programme was set up to help young sportsmen and sportswomen.
His races were recorded, and he was compared with the world’s best sports stars.

Step 1 Warming-up
Look at the pictures and talk about them.
设计意图:通过看图并谈论呈现的数字猜测其含义,引入体育话题及复习被动语态。
Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Look at the picture of Liu Xiang and talk about him.
设计意图:通过图片引出今日话题及主人公。
2. Look at the picture and the title of the passage in Activity 2. Talk about how Liu Xiang became a sports hero.
Step 3 While-reading
1. Read the passage and choose the sentence which best expresses the main idea.
2. Read again and match the years with the notes to complete the timeline.
3. Read Para.1&2 and try to find out the sentences in passive voice.
4. Read Para. 3 and fill in the blanks.
5. Read Para. 4 and find out the two most important prizes that Liu Xiang has won.
6. Read Para. 5&6 and answer the question.
设计意图:通过阅读使学生抓住文章要点,理解文章内容,并通过多种练习训练学生快速抓住主要信息的能力。
Step 4 Post-reading
1. Fill in the blanks and retell the passage.
2. Learn the language points.
(1) Liu was encouraged at first to train for the high jump. 起初,(人们)鼓励刘翔练跳高。
encourage sb. to do sth.表示“鼓励某人做某事”。在本句中,encourage一词用了被动语态,表示刘翔“被鼓励去做某事”。
(2) It is a pity that his foot problem stopped him from completing the 2012 London Olympic Games. 令人遗憾的是,他的脚伤使他没能完成2012年伦敦奥运会比赛。
stop sb./sth. (from) doing sth. 阻止某人做某事/阻止某事发生
同义短语是:keep sb. / sth. from doing sth. prevent sb. / sth. from doing sth.
(3) But he is still a symbol of courage and success, and we continue to take great pride in him. 但是,他仍然是勇气和成功的象征,我们依然为他感到十分骄傲。
take pride in 为……感到骄傲、自豪
设计意图:通过讲解语言点,使学生掌握并学会运用文中的重点词汇和句子。
3. List the key phrases and read them together.
4. Complete the passage with the correct form of the words in the box.
5. Write the notes in Activity 3 in full sentences.
设计意图:鼓励学生在已做活动的基础上组词成句,并复习已学内容。
6. Look at the verb forms in the two sentences and then write the sentences about table tennis player Zhang Yining.
7. Write a passage about Zhang Yining. Tell them they can use the sentences they have written in Activity 6 to help them and that they can refer to the passage about Liu Xiang.
8. Ask some Ss to read their passages and give an evaluation.
9. T shows an example version.
