Section Ⅰ Reading and Thinking (1)
    A
There are hundreds of national parks and wildlife areas in Africa that you can travel to. Here are the top four travel destinations in Africa:
    Tanzania—Serengeti National Park
During the yearly migration(迁徙), when the wildebeests and zebras pack up and leave their living areas to find fresher ones, the Serengeti is an astonishing place to be. It’s a very good travel spot, for migration here has been ranked as a wonder of the natural world.
    Kenya—Masai Mara National Park
If you want to see the big cats, this wildlife park is the best. There are lots of lions, leopards and cheetahs, and they are relatively easy to see because you can get good views for miles around. Another big plus is the fact that going off-road is allowed and it is a big advantage because the animals will rarely follow you and stay next to the major roads.
    South Africa—Kruger National Park
For the variety of species no other place in Africa can come close to the Kruger Park. And because it is so large it has a number of different ecosystems that you can pass through in your search for animals and birds. It is one of the best managed parks in Africa and the accommodation is well equipped, too.
    Zambia—South Luangwa National Park
South Luangwa is a diamond in the rough, just waiting for enough exposure to bring it to its rightful place in the crown(王冠) of prime Africa trips. It has been considered as one of the best places in Africa to see the special leopard and it is the birthplace of the walking travel.
    1. What does the underlined phrase “pack up” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Rise. B. Suffer.
    C. Gather. D. Separate.
    2. Why is Kruger National Park different from the other parks?
    A. There are many kinds of species.
    B. There are a lot of high trees.
    C. It is the largest park in Africa.
    D. It has enough hotel rooms.
由“South Africa—Kruger National Park”下的“For the variety of species no other place in Africa can come close to the Kruger Park.”
    答案:A

    3. Which park should you go to if you want to see wildlife on foot?
    A. Serengeti National Park.
    B. Masai Mara National Park.
    C. Kruger National Park.

由“Zambia—South Luangwa National Park”下的“... it is the birthplace of the walking travel.”

    B. To discuss wildlife protection in Africa.
    C. To advise more people to travel to Africa.
    D. To introduce some top natural parks in Africa.
根据第一段的“Here are the top four travel destinations in Africa”可知,作者的写作目的是介绍非洲最好的几个国家公园,故选D项。
    答案:D
    B
Everglades National Park is located in the state of Florida. It is the largest wilderness in the entire country and makes up 25% of the wetlands in the state. The park is home to several rare and endangered species. It is also the third largest national park in the US, after Death Valley and Yellowstone. On a global level, it has been announced as a World Heritage Site.
Unlike most other national parks, Everglades National Park was created to protect an ecosystem from damage. In 1947, President Harry Truman said the goal of creating the park was to protect forever a wild area that could never be replaced.
10,000 different islands make up Everglades National Park. Each of these islands is occupied by natural wildlife. The Everglades is home to about 15 species that are endangered, including the American crocodile(鳄鱼) and the west manatee. In addition, more than 350 bird species and 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish live within the park. The Everglades is also home to 40 species of mammals and 50 reptile species.
According to experts, changes to the Everglades are becoming a danger to several different kinds of wildlife. They say it is a result of actions the US government began more than 50 years ago, and settlers began even earlier.
    5. What is mainly talked about in the first paragraph?
    A. Florida is famous for its wetlands.
    B. The US has three important national parks.
    C. Everglades National Park is of great value.
    D. Everglades National Park is popular with visitors.

    6. How does the author describe the richness of wildlife in the park?
    A. By listing figures.
    B. By personal experience.
    C. By making comparison.
    D. By carrying out a study.
    答案:A
    7. What would be further discussed if the text is continued?
    A. What can be done to help save the wetlands.
    B. What the government has done to protect the park.
    C. How important endangered wildlife is to the world.
    D. How the park’s environment was badly changed.

    C
A good book can be satisfying. If reading is a habit you’d like to get into, there are some ways to develop it.
Read a good book. Reading will be enjoyable if you have a good book. If you have a difficult book and you are forcing yourself through it, it will seem like a task. 8.
Set time. You should have some time every day when you’ll read for at least 5 to 10 minutes. 9. For example, make it a habit to read during breakfast, lunch and even dinner if you eat alone.
      10. When you leave the house, make sure to have your car keys and one book at hand. The book stays with you in the car, and you can take it into the office and to appointments and everywhere you go.
Find a quiet place. Find a place in your home where you can sit in a comfortable chair. 11. There should be no television or computer near the chair, and no music or no noisy family members/roommates. If you don’t have a place like this, create one.
Reduce the time on TV or the Internet. If you really want to read more, try cutting back on time on TV or the Internet. 12. However, every minute you reduce on TV or the Internet, you could use for reading. This could create hours of book reading time.

    A. Go to bookstores.
    B. Always carry a book.
    C. This may be difficult for some people.
    D. Don’t lie down unless you’re going to sleep.
    E. Have some good tea or coffee while reading.
    F. It means you will read no matter how busy you are.
    G. If so, drop the book and find another one you’ll really love.
    9. 解析:根据空格后的例子“For example, make it a habit to read during breakfast, lunch and even dinner if you eat alone.”
11.解析:根据上句“where you can sit in a comfortable chair”可知读书时应该坐着,而不是躺着。
    答案:D

I went to the Tsavo National Park in northern Kenya for a film. We set off early for a distant waterhole. A huge elephant covered with dry mud drank calmly and deeply. He might have travelled 50 km to reach the water. He wasn’t going to hurry now. We thought he’d drink a while and rest in the shade, and then drink again. What actually happened was that he drank deeply and stepped away. Then he suddenly fell down. Within minutes he was dead.
We called animal doctor Jeremiah Poghon immediately. He removed the head of a poisonous arrow(箭) from the elephant’s body, and let out over 100 litres of drug—the result of the elephant’s meeting with a poacher(偷猎者) months before.
Today’s poacher fires an arrow, covered with poison, into the body of an elephant. If the poacher is lucky, the elephant might die in an hour or two; if not, he might have to follow the elephant for days before it dies. Often the arrow head fails to kill the elephant at once—it doesn’t mean the poison won’t finally kill the elephant, but it will be a slow death.
Living in Tsavo through these times, I could see the results of poaching wild animals from time to time. When I think about the death of that elephant, what stays with me is the great silence after the shocking sound of his body hitting the ground. I couldn’t escape the feeling that with the death of such a large animal, the world seemed to be a poorer and emptier place.
    1. Which of the following is TRUE according to the first paragraph?
    A. The author went to the waterhole to find water.
    B. The author tried his best to save the elephant.

    B. He was killed by a poisonous needle.

根据第二段中的“... and let out over 100 litres of drug—the result of the elephant’s meeting with a poacher months before.” 该题也可根据第三段中的“... but it will be a slow death.”
    3. How does the author feel when thinking about the elephant’s death?
    A. Empty. B. Curious.

    A. To introduce African elephants.
