(2022秋·浙江衢州·八年级统考期末)A visit to the old city of Petra in Jordan is an amazing experience. Around the city, there are mountains with many pink rocks. To get to the mountains, tourists walk for over a kilometer through a narrow hole in the rock. Then they come to a large building in the side of a cliff (悬崖). Petra has many of these beautiful rock-cut buildings, and they make the city famous.
Two thousand years ago, Petra was a busy and noisy place. People came from far away to buy and sell in the market places. The city became rich. At one time, more than 30,000 people lived there. But the pink rocks were not as safe as they looked. Earthquakes (地震) made many of the buildings fall down. As the year went by, people stopped coming and living there. Finally, the world forgot the city of Petra.
In 1812, a Swiss traveler called Johann Burckhardt heard about the lost city. Local people told him that it was in the mountains, and someone took him there. When Burckhardt went back to Europe, he wrote about Petra and people started visiting the city.
________ More than a million tourists go there every year. People sell postcards, camel rides and cold drinks there. There are museums, shops and restaurants, but nobody lives there. At night, the old city is quiet again.
6.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Tourists to Petra. B.Rock-cut buildings.
C.Holes in the rocks. D.Plenty of pink rocks.
7.What is the right order of the following facts about Petra?
a. A traveler wrote about Petra after visiting it.
b. Lots of tourists start visiting Petra every year.
c. Petra became rich and many people lived there.
d. The world began to forget Petra after earthquakes.
A.c-a-b-d B.d-a-b-c C.c-d-a-b D.d-b-a-c
8.Which sentence can be put in the blank “________” in Paragraph 4?
A.There are also some problems in Petra. B.These days, Petra is a busy place again.
C.However, Petra isn’t as popular as before. D.Maybe Petra will be different in the future.
9.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Petra: A Modern City B.Petra: The Lost City
C.The Earthquakes in Petra D.The Problems in Petra
根据“Petra has many of these beautiful rock-cut buildings, and they make the city famous.”
根据“The city became rich. At one time, more than 30,000 people lived there.”,“Earthquakes (地震) made many of the buildings fall down. 8.推理判断题。根据“When Burckhardt went back to Europe, he wrote about Petra and people started visiting the city.”和此空后的句子“More than a million tourists go there every year.”可知,瑞士旅行者在佩特拉旅游后返回欧洲,并写下了关于这座古城的文章,此后人们又再次开始来这座城市旅游,每年都有超过一百万的游客来佩特拉,所以此空应是选项B“如今,佩特拉又是一个繁忙的地方了。” 起承上启下的作用。故选B。
9.最佳标题题。根据“A visit to the old city of Petra in Jordan is an amazing experience.”,“Finally, the world forgot the city of Petra.”和“More than a million tourists go there every year.”

The students of Violeta Llamas science class, including Jenny, have cared for the sea animals since January. The science class has eight teams. Each team takes turns to care for the abalones. Team Five—Jenny, Alexis, Jennifer and Ricardo—have now got their turn.

Why do I like the village? Because it’s a beautiful place. My grandmother has a lovely garden and we can sit under the trees, drinking sweet tea and chatting. It’s so pleasant. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some suggestions for you to bridge generation gap(代沟).
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise(和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree(有分歧) on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a car. They argued over it, but finally they came to a compromise. Michael bought the car, but only drove it on certain days.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.

根据文章第一段中句子“There was famine(饥荒) and everybody was very hungry.”
根据文章第一段中“She was greatly surprised to see the rays of sunshine falling through the net. And they were changed into golden grains(谷粒) of rice.”

Do you remember the elephant “tour group” in Yunnan? Where are they now? They are back at their home!
In March, 2020, a family of 15 wild Asian elephants left their habitat in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. Since then, they had kept going north, through mountains, forests, rivers and even city streets. Along their journey, they ran into villages and ate farmers’ corn. But no one blamed(责怪)them. “It is OK. They are just hungry,” a farmer said.
Scientists guessed that the elephants were losing their habitat, so they might go north to look for a new home with more food. Or the group might lose its way because its leader had no experience!
To help the elephants get home and protect them, the government used 76 police cars and trucks, as well as five diggers and nine drones(无人机). Police and scientists closely watched them. They watched the group’s movement and sent warnings(警示)to nearby people not to get close to the elephants. They also helped them with food and drink. Finally, the elephants ended their trip safely and happily after 17 months and a 500-kilometer journey.

(2022春·河北保定·八年级统考期末)There were two men who lived next to each other. One of them was a retired teacher and the other was a lawyer. Both of them had planted many different plants in their gardens. The retired teacher rarely watered his plants and didn’t care much for them. But his neighbor was very careful with his plants and watered them often.
The retired teacher’s plants were small, but still looked okay, while the lawyer’s plants were much bigger and greener. One night, there was a heavy rain and strong wind, then came a terrible storm. The next morning, both of the neighbors came out to check on their gardens. The lawyer saw that his plants had been ripped from(拽出)the ground and were totally destroyed(摧毁). But the retired teacher’s plants were not damaged at all but stood firm.
The lawyer was surprised. He went to ask the retired teacher. “We both grew the same plants and I cared for my plants better than you did. How could your plants still be okay?” The retired teacher smiled and said, “Because you gave your plants too much care. You made it too easy for them to grow.
