During that year, I didn't talk to him much, but he smiled at me when our eyes met, always shyly. He never ate lunch with anybody, and he never talked to anybody but me.
One day I joined those unkind kids who were making fun of him though I thought it was wrong.
“Haven't you got any friends?” a kid asked Christian, who was walking past us alone.

Recently, Zibo barbecue(烧烤)has become so popular that people all over China travel there to taste it. Do you know why it became popular? Maybe here are some of the reasons.
First, maybe it's because of a promise that is between the local government and thousands of college students. Last year during the COVID-19 pandemic(疫情), thousands of college students were stuck(被困) in Zibo. The local government helped students to get through that period and offered a great barbecue dinner when the quarantine(隔离)was over. The government officers also invited the students to come back to Zibo again when spring came.
In addition, Zibo barbecue is different from the ones in other cities and the food is special and delicious. Zibo's barbecue restaurants have a small grill(烤架)on each table. People need to cook on the grill by themselves. When the food is ready, you put it onto a small pancake, and then add scallions(葱)and sauce before eating. And if you want to taste the barbecue in Zibo restaurants, you have to book a table several days earlier, or there wouldn't be any seats for you.
Finally, it's because of the friendly and warmhearted people there. People in the restaurant don't know each other before, but they just talk naturally about daily life and sing together. The bosses of the restaurants are very kind and friendly to the customers. Some local people will put off their orders if they hear there aren't enough seats. They want tourists from other places to have the chance to eat.
Why is Zibo barbecue so popular? I think you know the reason now.
23. Who offered the college students stuck in Zibo a great barbecue during the COVID-19 pandemic ?
A. The students' parents. B. The local government.
C. The students' friends. D. The bosses of the restaurants.

A. People need to cook on the grill by themselves.
B. Zibo's barbecue restaurants have a big grill on each table.
C. The food is special and delicious.
D. People have to book a table earlier if they want to taste it.
25. Why will some local people put off their orders if there aren't enough seats?
A. Because they want tourists to have the chance to eat.
B. Because they think it's too crowded.
C. Because they want enough seats to have barbecue.
D. Because they don't like the barbecue very much.
26. What's the main idea of the passage?
A. Why Zibo barbecue became popular.
B. Zibo barbecue is special and delicious.
C. People in Zibo are friendly and warmhearted.
D. We should keep the promise that we made.

Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can't win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure. This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
We must not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Failure can't be avoided in our life. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb(灯泡). When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn't failed 10,000 times but had learned 10,000 things which didn't work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.
Losing is not very disgraceful. We must accept our failure and learn to take advantage of it. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we'll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others solve problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistakes in the future.
We should face our failure when we lose. There is only one winner in every competition. Some win, while some lose. That is a usual way of life. If we offer our congratulations(祝贺)to the winners and share in their happiness, we won't feel sorry for our failure.
In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the beginning, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.
27. Which of the following shows the structure(结构) of the passage?
(P1=Paragraph1)
A.B.C.D.
28. In the writer's eyes, why did Edison achieve success?
A. He got help from others.
B. He happened to make it.
C. He avoided possible mistakes.
D. He saw the bright side of losing.
29. What does the underlined word “disgraceful” probably mean?
A. Bad. B. Personal. C. Dangerous. D. Interesting.
30. What is the best title for the text?
A. Ideas about How to Avoid Mistakes
B. Experience in Dealing with Problems
C. Advice on How to Be a Good Loser
D. Advantages of both Success and Failure

As a writer, I ever 54 as a “Reading Mom” in a primary school. A boy called Ronny attracted (吸引) my attention. He looked like every other kid in the first-grade classroom but he was different—he had a speech problem.
Every time when it was Ronny's turn to read, he sat very close to me and opened the book as if he was opening a box of treasure. I watched his fingers move 55 under each letter as he tried his best to speak. If he read a word with a strange 56 successfully, the biggest smile would spread across his face. After several days, Ronny made great progress although he was sill below the level of his grade.
A few weeks before the school year ended, I presented Ronny a book—one of those Little Golden Books that only cost $5. He was so 57 at my gift that tears ran down his face.
A few days later, I noticed Ronny on a chair near the playground, the book open in his lap. His teacher said, “After you gave the book to him, he read it every day. Do you know that's his 58 book he's ever actually owned?”
Hearing that, I felt so moved. I walked towards Ronny and asked, “Will you read me your book, Ronny?" He nodded.
And then, for the next few minutes, he read much 59 than I'd ever thought. When he finished reading, Ronny closed his book and said with a great smile. “Good book!”
At that moment, I knew I should do what a writer should do- care enough to write a story that changed a 60 life, care enough to make a difference.
